Ah, this is more to my liking than crayons! I even have a location in mind already.

I'm tempted to bunk off to the tracks to have a look; might take some crayons with me lol

Hmm, laying some crayons on the tracks an then letting the train squish them. The idea has some merit.

I think I can, I think I can...

I think I have a witty title for the score thread: "The little score that could"

So if we read in the news about a derailed train and how the police are looking for a colourful culprit we'll have a good idea eh Steve lol

There's a great place for train watching about an hour west of Chicago.

It is where I took these:

I didn't enter this last time because there are no railroads left in Newfoundland. However, there are a few railroad/train museums around, maybe I'll enter this time.

Why....why.....why can't we do this in June!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The last one was in October. I have five killer spots to shoot from. But, in the winter months they are bathed in shade.

WHY!!! What have I done to offend the DPC Gods?

Really? Come on Langdon...really? Any one want to take a guess on what the background for my shoot on Sunday was....yep..you guessed it on the train tracks!!!! I have a freaking AMAZING shot of a guy crouching down on a small platfrom next to the tracks as the train is whizzing by. The shot caught just as there was an opening letting the light hit his face in a FREAKING dramatic way. THAT was my winning shot dang it!!! The shot can't be repeated. It typified the urban shot i was looking for. Can we back date this challenge a couple of days?

Folks should be aware that trains and train yards in the U.S. are patrolled by security personnel that take a dim view of shutterbugs. I was recently accosted by BNSF agents while photographing a consist build at their Belen, NM railyard. They were polite and informed me that photography is discouraged for security reasons.

Before I knew what the challenge was, I was driving around today before work and saw a snazzily dressed man walking the tracks. I started to pull over and shoot, but decided not to.

gah.

I haven't ran into this problem. I've shot in BNSF railyards in Grand Junction and Greeley and the only warning I received was from a guard that told me "make sure you don't get killed." Of course those aren't full railyards (no servicing facilities or repair tracks), but are storage and transfer yards, that might be the difference. Not sure how big Belen is, maybe its a difference in function. Or maybe the guards just don't like photogs.

hmm... Not really much changes for us here in Iceland to go for this challenge. No trains or railroads here;) Maybe a toy train but i seriously doubt it.

I was just walking the dog along the local train tracks today and found several really good spots for shots. Too bad Canon has my camera. Maybe I'll steal/borrow my daughter's camera.

I have a great idea for this challenge. Unfortunately it would only be legal under expert.

Made a detour on the way home today. May have gotten some good ones. I'm spoiled for choice here.

The good shots always seem to happen when the appropriate challenge is not up. I had originally entered this one in the freestudy, but swapped it out after my trip to New Mexico.

According to some others in my area, the DART rentacops also like to chase photographers away from publicly visible areas. They didn't catch me, Nyyyahhhh!!!

I was a week early. Now would this picture score better in this train challenge?

Can't tell. I gave it a 7 in the freestudy.
