Okay... random question:

Obviously I know what the DCIM (Digital Camera Image Management) folder is for, but has anyone EVER seen an internal use for the \MISC folder?

I've Googled around, and can't find it anywhere (just others asking the same). Somebody suggested that it's possibly used during firmware upgrades, but that was one guy with a random theory. Others suggest that it may be reserved for "future use".

Inquiring minds want to know.

Is that something new?? I don't have any such folder on my cards?

I think it first appeared on either my 30D or 40D. Still creates them on the 5DmkII as well.
It is ALWAYS empty.

I get it when I open up my CF card to download pics. There's the DCIM folder with the 100Canon folder inside as well as the Misc folder. No idea what it's for though.

Hah, so it must have appeared with the generation immediately after the 5D. I keep forgetting my 5D is going to be four years old this Fall! Ancient in DSLR terms.

It also used to show up on my Digital Rebel (which I bought in 2004).

I think it's just a folder meant to be ignored by the camera so you can put stuff in it

The camera creates it. I have one too, no clue what it's for yet but I'm going to find out now that someone brought it up.

Linky

Not that this really validates the purpose of the MISC folder but it more than likely the correct one. I have over 600 raws on my card now so it's not a good time for me to try to put something in there but when I dump the card I will try it out and report back.

Hmmmm... interesting. I have a bunch of cards, but it's late - so I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Thanks Dirt!

I've often wondered the same thing. Every digi cam i've ever owned has had that wierd empty MISC folder.
