I went to check my battery level tonite and noticed that they were low so I turn the camera off exchanged the batteries in my grip and NOTHING. I thought maybe it was the grip. So I took off the grip and tried the one battery in its slot and still nothing. I even tried someone elses fully charged batteries and notta.

Anyone have suggestions? I have an engagement shoot tomorrow.

Thx

saw this after a google search of the issue:

Camera power 'off'' - remove battery and clean the contacts (shiney metal strips) on the battery.
Now remove lens and clean the lens contacts also.
put a cap on the camera (no lens)
Reinstall the charged battery and turn on the camera.
It should start up. If so, turn it back off and reinstall the lens.

Try taking out the backup date/time battery and put it back in. (it will reset everything, all your settings, date, time, etc.) I had my old rebel freeze on me, and that's the only thing that helped it.

Sorry got distracted.

No didn't work. I will try to get a new battery tomorrow. Hopefully your suggestion will help. I was all set to buy a new camera, maybe this will push me over the edge.

Just to make sure and I'm sure you did but, after you took the grip off you reinstalled the battery door right? No door= no connection= no juice to camera.

Ya I tried that. If the little clock battery is dead, then I assume the camera won't operate. Is this correct?

That is a good point. I used to use a grip on my camera but found it was erratic in whether the camera would turn on or not. Everytime I replaced the grip with the single battery and door, it would work no problem. I never use the grip now...not just for this reason...!

I just grabbed my 350D and took the clock battery out and then reinstalled the main battery, no power up w/o that clock battery. That's not saying it wouldn't start with a dead battery at least making a connection but it could be your problem.

I had problems with my Nikon before where it was a weird lens connection that caused my battery light to go on, even though they were fully charged. It only happened with I had my 70-200 lens on the body, and due to loose connections between the lens and the body, it resulted in a spent battery light. I doubt that your experiencing the same problem, but try switching lenses, or removing the lens altogether.

[from animal's dad, junior account]

Hi there

The Canons will knock the power off if the CF card door is open, maybe this microswitch is unhappy. It might be worth checking. Open and close the CF card door (with a CF card installed) and see if you get a red led blip on the back of the case.

Just a thought

Hope you fix it soon

Oh... Dude! You did it all wrong! You pronounce the camera dead, buy the new one, and only then remember that someone said to check the clock battery. That way you have a working back-up, or a working camera to sell to offset the new purchase. ;-)
04/04/2009 11:04:24 AM · #21
Actually, I've heard that once the clock battery dies, you really can't depend on the camera. There's probably some sort of nasty power drain that caused it, and who'd want to take chances with that? Or some sort of alien living off the camera batteries inside the camera. Better go buy a new camera! :D

What do you mean no new camera? You can always accidently drop that 350 on the floor a few times. Bingo! New Camera!!!!

Ya you're right. My wife actually told me to go out and get a new one. I think its me thats a little stingy. My camera only has about 6K on it its still brand new! But the noise issue in 200iso or higher is killing me!! I'm tempted to pull the trigger! and turn this one into my backup or convert to IR(that would be cool!)

Thx to all.
