Hi there,

There was a CALIFORNIA DPCers post, but I wanted to get localized a little more. I know we tried to plan a photo trip to the poppy fields, but they were not blooming very well during the planned outing.

What is everyone up to on June 13th (Sunday)? Is that enough warning to mark your calendars to take a DPCers trip? I would really like to stay within LA county and do all the great photography we can right within our own County! Anyone with me? As for where to go?

I would like to do a hike, or go to a park, or perhaps just go downtown to do urban city life photos. Any suggestions and can anyone make this date? It'll be hot, but if we can stay out of the valley or desert, we should be okay! :)

I think a trip downtown would be cool. Folks could take the metro from their various locations and get to experience that and then we could shoot either the flowermart or toymart or maybe just the architecture (I like the area new the jewelry district for that).

Downtown sounds good to me. Anyone else?

I'd love to go but I am not sure if that date will work at the moment. I will check and repost. As long as we don't go anywhere near the Walt Disney Concert Hall, I'm game. :)

Places I'd like to visit: Staples Center, Angel's Flight, Flower Mart, Olvera Street/Union Station/Post Office, Chinatown(land), Japantown and I'm sure there are others. If we don't stay in downtown, we could go to various parks/gardens such as Huntington and Descanso.

And, yes, it will be quite hot, I'm sure.

I'm game for downtown. That's one of my favorite places to shoot. It has a little bit of everything. I'm not sure about the date though. I may have to work.

Just checked my travel schedule and it looks like I have nothing in June. So for the moment, I'm available for this photo safari of sorts.

Mo' stuff:
Just in case you folks want to shoot at the flower mart, you'll need to get there really early to take any pictures of the flowers. I think the place opens around 6 or 7.

Yay, this should be fun! I am up for Angel's Flight, the markets, Little Tokyo, Staples, etc. I don't feel like Chinatown (since I live there). May I ask MrAkamai, why not Disney Hall, out of curiousity? :)

Exactly. But if you guys want to go I'll go just to see if I can get a different angle or whatever.

I think I could make it too. I'll just take the day off from work. I' game for anywhere everyone else wants to shoot.

Wow, you have some great shots of Disney Hall. I can see it from my window, but have never been close enough to get good photos of it. I would really like to try the flower district, toy district, fashion district & Little Tokyo.

We could meet at Union Station and hop on a Dash and just see where we end up? June 13, 10:00am Sunday, Union Station, at the fountain on the corner of Ceasar Chavez and Vignes. How's that sound? We'll have to privately trade cell phone numbers in case one of us gets lost or is running late.

Let me know :)

Flower mart isn't open on Sundays, so that's off the table for this trip.

I'm not sure about Sundays at the fashion/toy district either.

Little Tokyo sounds pretty cool. I haven't been there in years.

Beckettboots & Mirdonamy-

Thanks for looking through my portfolio and I'm glad you liked my shots of the Disney concert hall. Not too many people have viewed my images. My goal this year is to get more than ten people to visit my portfolio and get at least one person to add me as a favorite photographer. :) Well, the latter may not happen but you never know. I guess I just need to enter more challenges and get my name out there. I've entered in only six challenges so far which is not a lot. Anywho, I'm babbling because it's late. I look forward to our first LA/DPC meet!

I've been Downtown on Sundays and the fashion district is definitely hoppin'. I guess some of the flower markets are closed, but I have seen people selling flowers in the street.

Perhaps we should print up some model releases to take with us in case we get some great photos of people! Little Tokyo is always fun, but it's kinda spread out. I guess we could go to the Village first and move around from there.

Is everyone okay with meeting at Union Station at 10am?

I have a link to a DPC thread about taking pictures of strangers and I can reread it tomorrow and maybe draft up a basic release. Ooops, forgot to mention that 10:00 is fine with me. Do you know of a cheap place to park for the day or is Union Station the best bet?

Park up in the hills in Chinatown near Beaudry or Figueroa Terrace and take the Dash $0.50 to Union Station. I am catching the 9:37am Dash on the corner of College & Figueroa Terrace if you want to meet me. Free parking up in that area!!!

If you need mapquest: 910 Figueroa Terrace is the address closest to that Dash stop. Be sure to look up the DASH / LAdot on Google.com to make sure you are on the correct side of the street (where the bench is). You want to be going counter-clockwise on the Lincoln Heights / Chinatown Dash.

Private Message me and we'll all trade cell phone numbers and descriptions.

:)

I just noticed that there is a link to the model release thread in my post history and here is the link: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=65290

In that thread you will find links to a sample release: //www.netwrite-publish.com/model_release_form.htm

BTW, Mirdonamy, I sent you my contact information via PM.

Great, we'll carry some model releases with us. So, anyone else want to join us? Post here and then PM me with your cell phone number so we can connect if you are running late to meet at Union Station.

Are you still talking about June or is this for Sunday, May 9?
05/07/2004 12:53:44 PM · #21
June 13th. I can't get together until then. You all can, but that's when I can join you. :)

Thanks for letting me know, but I won't be able to make it either. It's tough, but I'm going to be in the Bahamas with my family :). I hope to see some great photos!

OK, I think some of you folks wanted to take photos of the Walt Disney Concert Hall and I just got a PM from another member, f-32, and he said he'll be in LA this week. We're planning a trip to take photos there if anyone else is interested. I'm still getting more details from him and I'll post more as they become available.

The more the merrier, or so they say! I hope we can get a good group going. For those of you who can't make June 13th, when can you go? I'd like to go again, of course! :)
