I found this site based in Guernsey (channel islands?) www.7dayshop.com and they have the caon 300D for £699 including lense. Problem though is that someone told be that I will have to pay VAT when the parcel enters the UK is it true?

I live in Jersey channel islands and we don't pay VAT here. If stuff is sent to the UK you will get it added on unfortunately.

You could go there, get it delivered to a Guernsey address, pack it in your luggage, and go home.

Not sure if that counts as smuggling?

Some mail order companies don't like delivering goods to addresses outside the card holder's home country, from my experience.

Yes it does! You may well be questioned at Customs when they see you walking through with a fully boxed new camera... but on the other hand, you might get away with it...

But I'm sure the price of a return flight to Guernsey would more or less cost the same as the amount you'd be saving by ordering from them in the first place anyway!

I live in the UK, and I've heard various stories about people who've ordered stuff from 7DayShop - people who order things below a certain price may well get them imported tax-free. But as yours is so expensive, I doubt the same would apply.

You're better off trying somewhere like Pixmania instead.

How about if it's unpackaged and used? They wouldn't know how long it had been unpackaged and used for :P

Yes, you may well get away with it if you do that. :)

But like I said, you're probably just better off ordering from somewhere on the mainland. For the sake of fifty quid, is it really worth the hassle of booking a flight, flying down, etc.... You might also have problems with the Warranty if you order from Guernsey.

Flights to and from GSY aren't that cheap, so you probably wouldn't save much money, and you'd be running the risk at customs if you don't declare it... It's also worth noting that the Channel Islands might be part of the UK, but they aren't part of the EU, so your consumer rights might be different.

Have not bought a cam from these peeps but just picked up a lens, decent price and next day delivery (beats smuggling. They are only down the road from and seem to have a decent reputation. £600 cam only, £744 with kit lens.

Or, use uk.pricerunner.com. They find the cheapest price.

Click here for the EOS 300D + Kit lens prices (£748.99)

Print it out, take it along to Jessops and they will do a price match. I did that when the 300D first came out and saved around £150.

I spoke with a few people at work today that have used 7dayshop for a long time (mainly film) and have never had problems with delivery (vat is inclusive and no import tax). I believe they have only just started to sell lenses and if in the UK you don't get charged import duty, their lenses are well cheap!

I doubt Jessops will match them as although they do price matching they will only (currently) do it against a mainland UK company.

i don't know if there is a jessops in guersey but here in jersey we have one and we can price match.

7day shop said i couldn't pick it up from them and to send it would take 10 days. I live 14 or so miles away.

I eventually found my 10d with ibm 1gb microdrive for £946 ex VAT. I was impressed with price and they say delivery will take 3 days. Good stuff if it does! ukdigitalcamera.com

Jessops would not price match the 7dayshop price on the 28-135 USM IS and my discount didn't come near the £100+ difference in price. Just waiting to see what their delivery is like :)

ooh, and a 70-200 f4L for £400, my 75-300 USM IS may be for sale soon! (to peeps that don't know of 7dayshop)
