Just wondering if anyone out there can help me understand the built in flash on my Olympus E-410 .....
Heres the problem,

In low light situations I find my cameras flash "flashing" for long periods of time and many times. Subjects tend to get pretty annoyed with it:( Which for me is very discouraging. I find myself avoiding taking photos at all in any low light situations.

I'm not sure if anyone has run into this before.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know (otherwise my beloved camera could find itself up for adoption..hehe)

Its likely to do with red eye compensation. Tell your subjects they are being scanned by the tax department and they'll shut up.

Red eye compensation and focus assist, I believe. Lot's of flashing is right. I think you can turn both of those off. I will give it a shot myself. Of course, we will have to manually focus. Red eye can disappear in PP.

it is most likly your Focus Assist, it does it to help the camera focus in low light settings, the problem being sometimes it delays your flash recycle time. My old oly used to have a red light that turned on and the camera would focus off that but it seems like the SLR's go with the flash thing. It can be turned off in the menu.

Definitely the Focus Assist, I have this feature off in my camera unless I'm using the FL-36 which has a built in AF with a LED light pattern.

Thanks for doing that, I will try and be a little more specific next time on my title.
I didn't find exactly what everybody was talking , but I think I found the equivalent "AF Illuminate" So I turned it to off and it seems to be better. So far anyhow:)
