My wife thinks that I have a serious addiction. Or at least an obsession. She thinks I am the "cat lady" of collecting cameras. You know how cat ladies will bring in all sort of strays because they want the cats to have good homes? That's how I am with cameras. Or how my wife describes me anyways.
My current collection of cameras includes:
Canon A60 (my first digital camera)
Nikon D50 (my "good" camera)
Holga (fun toy camera)
Olympus Trip 35 (my mom's old camera and the first camera I ever used. Definite sentimental value there)
Nikon N8008s film camera - I figured I'd like to shoot film and I have Nikon lenses so...
Minolta film camera (The lady I bought the Nikon N8008s had the Minolta and pretty much gave it to me with all of her lenses).

Anyone see a problem with this?

Nope........ It seems pretty normal to me.
03/11/2009 04:39:23 AM · #3
Not even close to a problem.

I'm predicting a grainy B/W pic of the Olympus Trip 35 in the 'Remember Those?' challenge....

You're probably asking the wrong people here ;-)

Nope. Sounds pretty normal to me.
Here's an idea:
Tell her you'll part with your first love (the A60)...
...and give it to HER.
Pretty soon, she'll be helping you add to your collection ;O)

Sounds OK to me too!

I have:
Canon 350D (First SLR)
Canon 30D (Bought as needed a second body)
Canon 5D (Currently on loan from my Dad! it is AWESOME!)
Canon AE1 Film Camera (Cos I fancied one)
Samsung P&S (Wifes)
Fuji S5500 (My first actual digital Camera)
Fisher Price Kid Tough (My 4 year old's Camera)
A "Polaroid" branded lump of a thing - Still works though hard to get the polaroid paper packs these days.
A Little thing that takes polariod images on to little sticky backed pieces of polaroid paper. More of a toy than a camera...

Also have a camcorder that takes (poor) images onto SD cards plus numerous cell phones with cameras!

Not even close to a problem IMHO. I know plenty of folks who have more. And the Holga doesn't count. It's a specialty camera.

I've only got 2 cameras (and a cam in my phone), but I've got 5 ukuleles. Heh. and getting ready to buy my next one soon. Tell your wife that at least the camera is quiet. :)

Nope, you sound normal.

Of course, that's coming from someone who has owned 11 cameras in 5 years...

I have a friend who has more than 25 cameras and must stop anytime he sees a new antique or junk store, just in case. And yet, he typically, if at all, photographs everything with a disposable.
I don't think you have a problem. And in writing this, I am wondering if maybe my friend has the right idea...

Indeed... Not long ago I purchased the Canon 5D Mark II, and on my way out the young salesman asked me if I might be interested in any lenses. Yes indeed I said, I am rather interested in a Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM, smiled and left the building.

For some odd reason, he called me every single day the following week.

Of course, posting this question here is a lot like walking into a bar and asking if you have a drinking problem... :)

Not until you have med and/or large formats with polaroid backs. Then it's a problem.

It's not a problem until you start naming them. Then they get jealous of each other. Don't let the Holga see the DSLR strutting about with a fast new memory card.

Nope, no problem there... I have:

Canon EOS-20D
Canon EOS-3
Canon PowerShot A310
Canon PowerShot SD1100
Voigtlander TLR
Holga
Kodak 35 Rangefinder
Kodak 35 Automatic

And the new cell phone... =]

And I'm always looking for more...

I'd say you're on track to being a collector... no problems there.

I have...

Nikon D50
Nikon D70 (converted for IR)
Nikon D200
Holga
Holga (destroyed and turned into a lens for my D50)
Vagabond (awesome piece of equipment)
Canon A520

I'll get some more one day.

What does your wife collect or buy a lot of? You can play tit-for-tat here.
03/11/2009 11:06:07 AM · #21
Wanna buy a Retina?
03/11/2009 11:22:29 AM · #22
No problem what-so-ever, my friend. Tell your wife to count her blessings she didn't marry ME... though in the end MY wife took all the cameras in the settlement, LOL...

My wife does not complain about the camera collection. They are small. Her problem is with all the bicycles in the way.
03/11/2009 12:20:39 PM · #25
No problem at all.

I have:

-Yashica Electro 35
-Polaroid One
-Nikon N65
-Olympus SP-500UZ
-Canon EOS 50D

And I never even considered myself a "photographer"
I'd say a good collection isn't a bad thing. In fact, I support you and your camera collecting ways.
