Challenge Details: Shoot something you have never entered before -- taken in a place you have never taken pictures before.

Ok, how can anyone validate that they have never been to such said spot before?

Basically, this is an open challenge. I dont think I like this!

Open is good! Means you can shoot anything..... except stuff you've already shot.

Like a winning photo?

I'm not sure about the first part of the challenge rules, it doesn't really make sense to me. I understand what the last part is saying, but not exactly sure what voters are looking for.

And for clarigfication, wasn't there a something new challenge once upon a time, like right after a Something Old challenge? So technically shouldn't this be "Something New Revisited?"

LoL I see alot of people deleting stuff from theyr portfolios :)

The previous challenge was to shoot some thing which was new or modern or had the feeling or concept of newness, following one where we were to shoot something old or representing oldness.

This really is an open-topic challenge, with it left up to the integrity of each photographer to try and capture a good image of a subject they've never shot (at least for DPC) before.

You can't delete previous entries, though...

HUh??? I don't get this. Is it something I never enter into, such a building. Or entered in a challenge? Perhaps not repeating a style of method of a shot. Do something different with your camera than you have done before? (something new) Shoot something in a new way or form? I got the last part, a place.

Ok, perhaps shoot something in a way you never tried to before and wanted to, now is the time, and find a place you have never been before with a camera. hmmm, woman's bathroom.....there you go...opps I just gave away my idea.

Dang, there go my winning model shots! :) I like this, like an open study with only a week to work on it.

Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, what haven't I shot yet and where haven't I been yet?

Notice that this challenge provides a built-in handicap for more experienced/prolific photographers. My previous long-term plan of trying to enter every challenge has at last yielded negative consequences ...

I wonder how many people are going to look at the portfolio of a high-ranking shot after the challenge and say, "Hey... he shot something like that already!"

Probably several people but remember, "Does Not Meet The Challenge" is not a reason for Disqualification! ;)

Ooooooooooooooo, I have an idea now

Well...I have never taken photos of a sunrise. Ever. I don't think I've even SEEN many sunrises in YEARS. But if I entered one, I can see the comments now..."This isn't new" sigh. Or "Been done before" yeah...but not by ME. Looks like voters will have to be a bit openminded too.

Ooo, I didn't think of that before, voters are extremely picky, I could see how they would say "so-and-so has done this before" "or this has been done on this site before" sort of thing. YEah, voters will need to be pretty open-minded.

so everyone should push the edge of what they've done before (except maybe hanging a towel off of their . . .)

LOL...yeah...that is definetely something new. I remember saying "Well...that's new."
05/03/2004 12:52:21 AM · #24
This is basically saying shoot something highly original, that no-one has seen before. That's how it will be voted, as you can't tell if someone has shot that type of shot before.

Yeah I thought too. just because isn't new to me, doesn't mean that it isn't new to them. We all would have to check the portfolio or personal websites to view other works to compare if thier photo for this challenge is a NEW shot of something or how it is shot. Too much time. I give them the benifit of a dought and enjoy the show. In the mean time, still wondering what this challenge means..:)
