Okay, Howdy.

I'm a retired industrial large format film photographer. Started digital 2006. A good friend suggested this as a way to curb my pessimism for all things digital(it's okay). Just checking it out for now. Perhaps a real member soon, we'll see.

Welcome, I think you will find digital to be a lot of fun and interesting in it;s own way and hopefully that pessimism thing clears up soon...

Forget it, get out while you can. Digital is a fad! It will soon die out and you will be stranded with so many others.

However, you could cough up $25 and become a fully certified digital patient with no prospect of a cure. But, we do have some nice rooms here with nice soft walls and back fastening jackets:))

Welcome to the Madhouse:)

Hi Brent, hope you jump in with both feet... think you need a little more glass though!

Brent, for someone with a pessimism for digital, you have quite the collection, ;p . Hoping you enjoy your look around..

Howdy back, I have never been able to make up my mind, Cannon, Nikon or Pentax( I didn't list them). Nikkors are expensive and so far I have found the reading of PSE; LR1.4 & CS4 more enjoyable than trying to start a new hobby. Thanks for the warnings, within a few weeks who knows maybe I will have to start a different hobby.

Caution - this site may be addicting.

Welcome! (The soundtrack you hear of the Eagles "Hotel California"? Just ignore that.)

Truthfully, I hope you do become a member. I look forward what you have to offer in your portfolio, as I'm sure you already know Vegas is a photographers paradise.

I just upgraded. But I'm my worst critic. A portfolio is doable in 90 days, no hurry. I'm in for the long haul, at least until I get bored with photography(heehee) or my bride finds a new hobby for me!

Cool, another "Howdy" person is here!

Welcome to DPC, and I hope that you meet some good pals here, and find the site enjoyable.

My brother used to shoot large format and worked with Clyde Butcher. Clyde is now doing the Photoshop thing with some of his work and is loving it.

I use a Fujifilm camera, which uses Nikon lenses. Most of the newer Nikon cameras can use the older "Ai" lenses, which makes getting good glass a lot less expensive. Having worked with large format, you may like the older glass and the manual part of focusing and setting aperture to suit the subject. They make adapter rings to put the older Nikkor's or Canon FD's on the digital Canon bodies too.

I think that you will miss the tilt and shift when you are shooting digital.

ETA, I looked at your profile, and see that you like to collect lenses too. You will fit in nicely here at DPC. The PC is a pretty cool lens and you have some of the nicer old Ai's
. I find most of the ones that I use on eBay, and at pawn shops. I have a pal in Washington state that repairs the older ones, and I buy from him sometimes.

Howdy, and always thanks for the votes of confidence. To be blunt, I made my way with camera and really am just spending my time reading threads here and else where. It will be some time before I actually post anything. A challenge might be fun someday but for now just reading is fulfilling enough. Once again thank you for your comments.
