For me it is a tossup between these two:

Posthumous: "ok now I'm pissed because you stole my brown..."
On this entry:

I still crack a grin everytime I read that. It was as good as getting one of his ribbons.

KWilson10: "This photo kind of angers me, but i love how it was taken. The reflection in the screen is awesome. Great job."
On this entry:

This was memorable, because the fact that it angered him a little means my message was conveyed very strongly to this person.

I'd have to go with this one.

"I see some light, but I suppose it is candlelight. I voted this way down, and the reason being it is not showing any candle in it. It is difficult to take candlelight shots, and I understand you were being creative without it, but to me this just isn't a great shot by not meeting challenge standards."

On this entry;

Memorable because she really didn't have a clue, but sure acted like she did.

I've received two that really made my day, both on the same pic:

Comment by Art Roflmao:
"'I'm not sure if the before and after is obvious enough in this.'

Apparently not. It is very hard to tell. Hope that doesn't deter you - especially from submitting more SPs. You would be a great model in a portrait type challenge.

Bright side: At least you didn't have to sit it out. :) Cheers."

Comment by chromeydome:
"PostLuminous Award WINNER!
too subtle for some, perhaps, but not for me. A beautiful subject (wise choice to do a self portrait here) I love the composition, the pose, the expression, the subtlety of the before/after transition, the question of who/what you are looking at, and the pure black negative space. While some suggest going a bit brighter, which might also look nice, this is fine just as it is--reminds me of the old school masters and the dramatic contrast style they favored.

This was my top favorite in the challenge, and it got a 9 from me.

Thanks for sharing this, and for taking the risk of subtlety here..."

These are the first two in-depth comments I ever received that made me feel like it was possible for me to do something right, therefore I love them :)

"From the thumb, there's a little Brad Pitt in that face"

From jutilda on my January free study entry, which was a SELF PORTRAIT... Made my day and made my wife crack up uncontrollably. I have never, and will never again be compared to Mr. Pitt.

- the SC at work...

Comment by posthumous:
GeneralE: this is one of those polykiwi shots. unnatural.

sher: but the man is moving in a circle.

GeneralE: but then he walks through the wall and faces himself. Not natural.

ursula: no, he looks in *first* and *then* he decides to go in through the door. Finally, he circles around to the window, where he thinks about he was just outside looking in. Memories are natural.

scalvert: thought processes are not natural. Only Newtonian physics is natural. This is so unnatural it isn't funny.

ursula: I think it's kinda funny. Look at his expression in the window. And look at that cute dog!

Comment by deafinball:
I like the symmetry of this composition, but what stands out to me is the phallic tower engulfed in the dark womanly "V". Very erotic. The tree tops add to the allusion. Great shot.

I am pleased to say that I've gotten some amazing comments, not the least of which were two missives from K10DGuy on Free Study entries.

If I had to select only one, I believe that it'd have to be the one I got from tootsweet on this image:

Post-processing to perfection. You have captured in digital format what I think Monet might have painted if he saw this image. You have met my personal rule of processing...if you do it, go all the way to create something unexpected. Thank you!

I was completely humbled.....what an incredible thing to have an image move someone to a comparison at this level.

for the comment:

I like the concept of this. Anecdotally, last night while I was half way between awake and sleep, I was thinking about geese laying golden eggs in the forest where no one could find them, and wondering where that reference came from. It came from here of course :) from mindbottling

because it's nice to have a lasting effect on somebody, even just for a moment.

"This is ribbony, but what is it really saying, anyway? Do my grandchildren need to see this?" posthumous

And it was on my first ribbon image. :)

dahkota floored me with this wonderful comment after the "Blue" challenge

"I'm not surprised by the final score - typical DPC. Just wanted to let you know that this image speaks more to me about life, time, and space, than most images in the challenge. While this is not a 'pretty picture,' it is a strong image that tells me a story, gives me an idea into the head of the photographer. That is worth so much more than another sparkly shiny object on a blank background."

With over six hundred entries and six thousand comments, it's a little hard to pick just one, but this is the one I found first ...

Out of thousands of comments, I have a lot that are memorable... but there are 4 that clearly stand out in my mind.

1.
"I keep looking and looking and still don't know what to say. Maybe Thank you." from tnun

2.
"The fish is unhappy, his fishbowl's askew,
But will the thing fall, or is it held up with glue?
The white glove's a sure sign of the Cat in the Hat,
But if that hand tips, the poor fish will go SPLAT!" from kteach

1st and only comment in Poem form that I'll ever receive. :O)

...and the next 2 go to hahn23

3. First for this: from the Wildlife III challenge
"Great zoo shot!" hahn23

Which was the result of the "great debate" in the forums re: what constituted a natural habitat. While he did really like the image, that comment stuck with me... as I've always admired the lengths that he goes through in the back-country to get some phenomenal wildlife images.

4. ...and then for this: from the Wildlife IV challenge (a year & a half later)
"I found this to be a compelling image. Excellent wildlife in its ocean environment. I also appreciate the composition and use of negative space to throw attention on the subject. (Could have been just a little more space on the right margin to allow more room to move.) My hope for you is that this image receives the votes it deserves. It's first rate! (9)" hahn23

That really made my day coming from him. Mission accomplished :O)

Great thread, BTW. Really made me think.

Two, for me:

e301 "Worth pausing to look longer at. I find the composition a touch dull - and the clipping of that circle to the right very annoying - why cut off the only thing that interrupts that flow of rounded squares? It wa a gift for this image, and you've disregarded it. Good sense of feel, but the weighting of areas of interest within frame leaves something to be desired for me." --- This was among the first thoughtful critiques I received at DPC, and it gave me pause to think about my photography.

and

heida "Amazing lighting. This is beautiful man!" (right after getting a 10)

I remembered this comment which showed much thought, compassion, and understanding.....

From: timfythetoo

Well this image was quite the shock opening up. Having just voted on almost 100 black and white images to see this image full of color come up was a stunner. Had I not spent the extra second I did compared to many of the other entries my finger probably would have hit the 3 button quick. I expect that you are recieving many DNMC votes and comments on this one. But not here. No where in the challenge description does ot say that your entry must be a black and white converted image. While a bit out of the box (just a bit) I think that you met the challenge well and in a gutsy way. The image is strong and pleasing, the red background really makes this stand out even more than in comparison to the images around it. My only real complaint is the border. I am not too keen on the design and the orange strip just doesnt really go well with any of the colors that are in your image. I hope you arent getting hit too hard here. You get an 8 from me counting the extra point awarded for sheer balls. Good luck and I look forward to seeing where this image falls.

I really have been blessed with some incredible comments!

One of my recent favorites from K10DGuy for this shot:

In a land ravaged by war and chaos, the people beyond joy and hope, in a never-ending struggle for a freedom that was no more than a dream, came a chance for redemption from a source most unlikely.

From the still waters of a sacred fount he rose. Born from the heart and tears of the very earth itself, he came. With his gaze turned skyward, and a grin to melt the very heavens themselves, he arrived. With his appearance was set in motion a string of events that would see the very world shaped along a different path. He was their salvation. He was their Hero.

And they called him Tim.

The comment that sticks with me most is on this:

I STILL laugh at this comment from my only ribbon winning shot. I got more out of this comment than all of the post-vote back patting combined:

posthumous:
At first I thought it said "Safe from Ham." That would have been a much better title. As to the photo, well, I don't know why the egg is on feathers on a black tabletop and the composition doesn't make any sense.
