Dear Mr. President,
I just listened to your Congressional address. You ran on the "Hope Ticket." You even wrote a book, "The Audacity of Hope." But I was always taught that hope isn't a strategy.

So please, Mr. President ... show us the Audacity of Substance, the Audacity of Courage, The Audacity of Leadership, The Audacity of Promises Kept ... transcend The Audacity of Hope.

Don't disappoint those of us who believed you had substance. Don't disappoint those of us who believed you would end government waste, government earmarks, government cronyism, and government waste. Don't disappoint those of us that believed you knew the answers to the critical issues that face our country, or if not, knew how to find true and correct answers to those questions. Don't disappoint those of us you promised to create bi-partisan leadership in our government.

So far you've only shown us the Audacity of Excess, The Audacity of Rhetoric.

It’s time to get on with principled leadership of our country when we need you most.

For if you fail, you will certainly experience The Audacity of Backlash, ... worse than you can imagine, worse than a woman scorned.

Hey Barack - I cannot call you my President until you can show a genuine birth certificate that shows you were truly born in the U.S. Before you continue to try to turn my great country into a nationalist or socialist country, please produce the document necessary for you to truly be President.

Now, don't get me wrong, because I voted for Obama-rama myself. But only to unseat the sap-sucker who sat in his place for 8 years.
And to prevent a watered down version of GW from getting the office.
But Pluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulease! The above comment is soooooo funny!

I watched Obama's speech last night. I think his goals are admirable. His only misstep to me was when he talked about finding a cure for cancer. It seemed so over-the-top optimistic.

I also listened to Jindal (Governor of Louisiana). Either he hadn't listened to Obama or his speech was written beforehand. Several times he said things like "But Republicans believe..." and then said something that Obama had just said. Effective strategy, I suppose, for those with selective hearing.

I thought the President made a pretty good case lastnight. One thing that bothered me was all the standing ovations, well not so much the ovations but the lack of one when Obama talked about people making less than $250,000 a year not seeing their taxes raised. A whole bunch of republicans and a few democrats in the room obviously make more than that 250G because they didn't stand up and applaud in fact some of them didnt even applaud. That sickens me. These people are elected officials but will not support a plan that help the less fortunate people (also voters) get a step ahead. That is Greed at it's finest. They are the people that we need to get out of Washington. They are the ones that worry about themselves first and are the reason our country is in such poor shape.

Obama's Hawaiian birth certificate has been examined and proved to be genuine. A Honolulu (Hawaii) newspaper also carried his birth announcement.
See snopes.

Well this new plan isnt helping me. It's helping the people who are considered poorer then me. I'm getting 13.00 extra dollars a week, whipppeee. I cant refinance because of everyone else making this market crap. I cant even get more loans toward tuition because i'm not poor enough. I wish they would stop telling people the economy is bad and start saying something positive. Then maybe these social morons will start believing it.

His mother was a U.S. citizen. He could have been born in another country and he would still be qualified to run the for presidency. Remember, McCain was born in Panama to American parents and he was qualified to run.

Maybe the economy's not bad for you, but it sure the Hell is for a lot of us.

I know it's bad I just said that. I'm stating that i'm indirectly affected. But it's just like everything else. People believe what they are told. So start telling them it's getting better and maybe they will follow.

This guy inherited the biggest shit-sandwich of a situation immaginable, one that was years and years in the making and people expect him to solve it in an entire month and half...?

Get a grip folks.

I, for one, think Obama is doing extraordinary so far. He's letting us know where the money is going, he's having people monitor the money, he's already targeted millions in unsuccessful programs that can be put to better use, he's putting more money in the future (research and technology). He's giving incentives to the people who strive (students, teachers), and he seems pretty adamant about finding the people who are abusing the economy by off-shore band accounts and giving bad loans.

He's got a lot of work ahead of him, but he's a very intelligent man and I'm hopeful.

birth certificate

For some reason, the haters refuse to believe that is a genuine certificate of birth. Go figure.

Could be due to his own Grandmother saying she witnessed his birth in Kenya. I do not understand why you have to label others as "haters"

I agree. You wouldn't think we'd be hearing that kind of junk at this point but as milo said it's a complete non-event.

McCain was born in Panama and he still qualified. And on a McCain note...doesn't he seemed uber-psycho-bitter over this whole, losing the election thing? He is one, tightly wound Mo-Fo. Scary to look at these days.

Doesn't matter, even if it were true.

Obama gets credit for wanting a rescue - hope that is what finally happens.

Rescues are the right way to go. It really pleases me, if in fact it turns out that way.

DrConfuser-I don't recall all your threads of outrage over the previous adminstrations missteps? Did you ever start any? Wasn't there a pretty long list of things they did that might have gotten you a little upset?

Any feelings about no bid contracts (in Iraq) offered to friends of the Bush Adminstration and the subsequent overcharging etc? Or cherry picking fact's that made the case leading to the war in Iraq? Just small potatoes?

It's not to say that you are wrong but if you're going spread the "righteous indignation bullshit" please do it with a fair and even hand.

Because it seems to me that that is exactly what it is. Had McCain been elected, would you have the same problem, since he has fully admitted that he was born on "foreign" soil?

I could say that i witnessed my grandson being born in Texas. That doesn't make it true, and i bet you'd accept his California certificate of birth as valid.

Yep. Goes back a long ways (more than 8 years for sure) - I wonder how Clinton missed this in 1995?

From linked article (How the Subprime Mortgage Mess Began): "Then a 1995 amendment to the CRA permitted securitization of these loans."

What a mess for sure!

I'd also add he seemed pretty petty on the Helicopter thing and was glad Obama brushed it aside with good humor.

...and how's about that Sarah Palin? Taking abosolutely no resposibility for her own piss-poor, divisive, polarizng performance and blaming everyone in sight for getting a well deserved public reeming. USA...USA...USA!!!

Where would we be if those two knuckle-heads were elected? More tax cuts for the rich?

Clinton is actually one of the guys who started the ball rolling, in a bi-partisan effort along with many others but more in an honest light, simply to increase home ownership. He was gone before things got really slippery and really ugly.

To blame him for not seeing what even Cheney admitted "nobody saw coming" up until last year (and Cheney never admits to doing anything wrong), let alone not spotting something 14 years in advance, isn't fair but he was certainly part of the problem. Again, for more innocent reasons.

Now, Phil Gramm (McCains, Economic Advisor)...Alan Greenspan...those guys you can hang for what it's all worth.

Don't think I started any Bush threads but I weighed in on plenty.

I am deeply embarassed, as an American, by Bush. History will undoubtedly portray him as the worst and most damaging predident in our entire history. I can't, and don't condone the sins of his presidency. For the record I voted for Obama because I felt change was necessary and he promised it. But so far hasn't delivered it.

And I admit I am skeptical of Hope as a national strategy. Mostly hope is self-actualization bullshit, and it has no place in running a country, a company, or even a bowling team. I suppose it's no worse than the "Happy Thoughts" strategy, or the Prayer strategy, or the "Don't Worry, Be Happy" strategy ... but surely no better.

My original point is that Hope won't fix things. He needs to do more than Hope. And he needs to differentiate himself from the sins of the Bush Presidency. So far he has not. The bailout bill is LOADED with pork and earmarks. It's spending money as if it was the spending, rather than what the spending would produce, that would fix the economy. This is wrong. If Obama was acting with great courage, he would have vetoed this failed bill and sent it back to congress for a much needed tune-up.

The bill as passed represents the Audacity of Excess. Excess (some call it greed) is one of the great sins of the Bush Presidency. It is one of the sins Obama needs to differentiate himself from.

And to the "Birth Certificate" hijacking - give it a rest. It's an intramural and won't change anything. Give it a rest. Let's focus on the main event.
