Sorry for the title but i couldnt think of another one to describe the Animals who shot and killed the subject of my best ever picture.
This is it. Stag
According to Info they simply drove past and shot this beatifull animal in Cold Blood.
I can only hope the next time those involved are out in their car they smash it into a tree and die also.

Oh, man, that is sad.

Don't apologise for the title. That's a very kind and generous description for anyone who would do that. How absolutly sickening!

Was there a newspaper link to the info on what happened? That does stink about just wasteful killing of an animal like that - doesn't make sense.

Side note - after looking at your DPChallenge image from the link you provided in the OP, I'm curious, why so many comments not marked as 'Helpful'?

Only three comments during voting not marked as Helpfull, 2 were questions and the other was a preference.

How could this happen? I thought all the guns had been rounded up and destroyed in the UK.

This looks like a story about it.

Not that you'd want to think of this but about the only shot with an air gun that could cause the animal to be put down would be the eyes. The perps that would do such a thing should be skinned alive.

How sad! There are extremely powerful air guns manufactured now-a-days. Some with muzzle velocities as high as their gunpowder counterparts.

They made some pretty powerful guns back in the old days too. When I was a kid I had a 22 cal. Pellet Gun that would shoot through a quarter inch of plywood if I pumped it up 20 times. The gun was quite old already when I got it, unlike modern models this thing was solid wood and steel. I like an idiot left it outside and forgot about it, It got wet and rusted up, Never worked properly after that so my dad sold it to a collector.

Karma kills. They got there kicks, but they will suffer in ways they are probably too ignorant to ever understand.

Muzzle velocity can be very misleading, though. With small caliber rounds the velocity can be extremely high, but they don't have much knock down power due to the small size of the round. That being said, it makes your example even worse (as fir3bird commented).
This story is really reminiscent of when the famed elk Samson was shot an hour from where I live.
Web Tribute to Samson
They actually created an additional penalty for poaching cases like this, called the "Samson Law" which automatically adds a $10,000 fine to any other penalties. Hunting is a necessary thing around here because there aren't really any predators these days, but poaching is a terrible thing and should be punished to the full extent.

It’s rather irrelevant to the discussion, but the energy (foot-pounds) of a small caliber air gun (.22 or .25) can approximate a rim fire. There are some serious pellet guns out there! They even make a .50 caliber “pellet” gun with a velocity of 570 ft/sec and 192 ft-lbs of energy. Sad story about the elk! Some similar things have happened on the Oregon coast. Killing elk and just cutting out the back-strap, leaving the rest to rot. It gives hunters a bad name.

Agreed- I only pointed that out because a lot of those Dateline type shows try to scare everybody by saying a BB gun has a muzzle velocity above 1,000 fps and everybody gets all fired up over the lethality of them.
What's even more pathetic about the Samson case is that the guy was the head of a guide school, and students of the school helped pack out the body.

Geeze... According to the article, his assailants didn't kill him, they shot him 5-6 times in the head with an air gun and then left him for dead, possibly as much as two days before he was found bleeding at the roadside by a passer-by who notified the authorities. He was still alive at that time, and was put down by the warden. That's just horrible :-(

I wish I had not read this thread but unfortunately there are animals who live among us that are capable of such sickening behaviour!

Leaves you with a sick feeling in what can only be described as your soul. :(

Sorry for your connection to this craig.
