yay so a good friend of mine had her second child yesterday and is gonna allow me to "play"
i never get to play with new 1st babies.. but by the time the second one comes they see that they really don't break that easy.. lol

anyway so on here I think it was someone did a shot of a new born in what looked like toole held up over rose petals I think and a long stem rose laid under the baby it was really really cute, I'm still trying to find it and I really really really want to try this. if anyone knows exactly how they did this please let me know.

or if anyone has any examples of easy cute things post em!

also, in doing the 3 towel stacked with the baby on top is there any tricks of the trade I should know?

I am also going to buy tomorrow or the next day some black material to ue as a back drop, what is the best inexpensive to do? I'd like to try the baby on dads hands that everyone does so iI am looking for something that will work well.

thanks!

For the black fabric, most will recommend velvet. It absorbs more light (or something) and so you end up with a better looking background as opposed to other materials.

I'll be watching the replies to this thread too, as I've got a new baby of my own to play with while I'm on maternity leave for the next several weeks :-)

This is one I took last week of my little guy....he has a stuffed cow that sort of lays flat like a rug. The point being that you could go buy a yard or 1/2 yard of some furry fabric at a craft/fabric store and drape that on the floor, an ottoman, or I've even read over people's hands as they hold the baby....just to give a bit of texture.

I was informed that bean bags with silk fabric over them make great baby posers.. is this true? and where in the heck do you find bean bags these days!????

I use a large bean bag, but I have a large fluffy blanket that I put over it for posing. I bought mine at Target.

Target is the PLACE! We have a couple of bean bag blocks that we got from there that I plan to mess with a bit. Otherwise I would check maybe the toy department at WalMart or the home goods department. Think bean bag chair....

on that note, if you live near a mall with a Spencer's Gifts, they might have a bean bag chair.

Newborns are fun to shoot...but can be tricky... Here are a few of my hundreds and hundreds i have...

This pic is alot easier than it looks...Piece of cream satin...The baby hasn't actually left the ground, the bub is just lying on the satin than I had mum pull the fabric to give some tension. The rest is done in editing to create the reflection.

This bubba is lying in a cane basket( I rarely show the basket in the photo). Basket is filled with cushions and then I cover it with a blanket. I find bean bags can sometimes be a little too soft and the baby will sink down.

This is one of my very very fave newborn shots.. This is a stool from my daughter's dressing table. If you did something like this, might be best to lay a thin(so not visible) bit of fabric or cloth under the bubba so it's not too cold and hard.

This is my towel shot..I only actually used 2 or 3 towels, the rest is edited in to make it look taller, nice and safe for the bubba.

If you need any info or want further pics, let me know!

Hope I have helped, have fun and can't wait to see the results.

When my nephew was born we posed him in a bookcase proping up Dr Seuss books. I wish I can show you but my scanner is out of comission and it was back when I was learning in college so it's a traditional hand developed black and white. He was on his belly with his butt propping the books.

Do you have a Dollar Store nearby?? The ones by me have some dishware/kitchenware and might have something like that.

One of my favorite shots was my daughter at 1 or 2 days old with my husband's hand just resting on her. She was 6.5 lbs, and his hand was so large, yet gentle and loving. oops, getting gooshy here... sorry!
