I am a casual photographer that wants to take my photography to the next step, semi-pro. I am in the works of setting up a website and was wondering what options I have as far as selling photos/putting up a portfolio.
I want something that I can integrate into my website, is professional, and is free. I know of Exposure Manager but our there other things along the lines of this??

Thanks

In my experience, blindly selling on the internet is useless. You need specific material for a specific buyer. But that's just in my experience.

Thanks, I should have stated that I need this so that clients can just take care of purchasing online.

there are 100 sites out there. some cost per picture, per month, per sale. some fulfill some do not.

you can use breezebrowser pro and you hosting space and paypal and do it that way.

sales and portfolio can sometimes be the same, LR will make a portfolio for you, just upload to your hosting space.

I use instaproofs for sales. no fee of any kind till something sell, and yoy fulfill yourself.

You might want to consider a Smugmug account.

What is LR?

And I was looking for something that fulfills orders and does not have a fee per month. I want something where they only charge when I make a sale.

Thanks

You are really limiting yourself when you are looking for something FREE. I recommend a Smugmug pro account. $150.00 sounds like alot for a year. But if you hustle you can make that quick. I paid for mine in the first month by shooting our high school football games and golf tournement. I just handed out alot of bussiness cards to parents and left a stack at the snack bar. Their customer service to both you and the people that order your photos from them can't be beat. They have a 100% money back guarantee on their prints. If your clients aren't happy with the print quality they can send them back and get a full refund, no questions asked. But their print quality is excelent. Clients can pay for their photos with credit cards, which is a big bonus, you can set your own prices and what products you want to offer. ie. t-shirts, mugs, playing cards.... You can set up to a 7 day proofing period for you to make any adjustments to the photos that are ordered and set up password protected galleries for any customer to proof their photos. Really, I can't say enough good about this company. It is specifically designed for photographers by photographers.

What clients? And what exactly are they buying from you?

Hmmm, it's too easy. I can buy pictures of kids and they aren't even my kids. Is that really a good idea?

Also, not all clients purchase photos via online storefronts. Nike doesn't get their imagery through smugmug. Neither does the mom & pop coffee store down the street if they're looking for photos to start a local marketing campaign. It helps to know exactly what clients we're talking about.

All he asked for was a place clients, reguardless of who they are, can order their prints. I just gave him an option that works very well for the casual photographer. Obviously if you are shooting for Nike you wouldn't make them purchace through a website at all. But it does work well for casual portrait sessions. Not so well for stock.

As far as how I make a little extra cash. What I do with the sports photos I take IS a good idea. My "clients" are US Servicemen and women stationed overseas. This allows, not only the parents, to purchace prints and have them sent directly too them, but it allows grandparents in the US and other countries, and parents deployed in combat zones to purchace photos that they otherwise couldn't get. Plus I have a 7 day proofing period where I can verify that the person ordering them isn't just some perv wanting cheerleader photos.

Try Gallery. It sounds like they might be exactly what you are looking for. If you want a sample, I have it running on my website: Photos by Jojo Just click the Gallery link on the right hand side. It integrates PayPal, Google checkout, and you can set up your own shopping cart and take credit cards yourself if you are authorized. Just one of many options :)

ETA: Oh yeah, and it's FREE even if you DO sell something!!! The only fees you pay are Credit Card/PayPal fees :)
