Right,

I really really enjoyed the challenge experience this time around.

Basically when submitting I was picking between two different photos.

One, a sunrise on the beach with a light house:

The other an out of focus, blurry almost monochrome cat photo

It's very obvious which one would be the 'safe' choice to go with for DPC but I went with the cats. I knew I'd get a rubbish score, and I did, a personal worst at 4.4

However I got more favs than I've gotten during a challenge other than my only ribbon winning shot. I also got great comments and, yeah, also knowing you'll get a bad score is sort of liberating since you won't have to worry about it at all. You know it'll be bad.

Anyway also, I really really like the cat photo and it's an example of the sort of photo I've been experimenting with this year. It all started with the Blurry Mess challenge here actually, which made me start to experiment with motion blur and out of focus blur and motion blur mixed with out of focus blur, heh.. also, cats. Probably 80% of my photos this year were of cats so it just seemed right to submit a cat photo.

Thank you everyone who commented and faved, you completely made my challenge experience.

I really like it. I gave it a 6 but looking at it again i think i'd vote it higher actually. I really love a lot of out of focus, blurry photography. I'm loving loads of the images in the Lensbaby side challenge. There were so many great photographs to vote on in this challenge i think i'd definitly vote it higher if it came up again.

Glad you like it :)

Basically I knew full well that not everyone would like this type of photo, I hoped however that there would be some people who did, and that happened so I more than accomplished my personal goal for the challenge.

I also like having more types of photos in DPC challenge. That was one of the reasons I chose not to go with the seascape outtake. I knew it wasn't a fantastic shot, i.e it's competent but not a top 10 type shot, so the whole thing would just muddle through average.

This last week following the scoring and tracking the challenge has been anything but average for me and it's a long time since I had as much fun during a challenge.

Doubt I'll go with a photo like this every time but it was great mixing it up some.

I can really relate to this shot. I love cats and had four when I was a child. I remember there scraps being so fast it was hard to tell which one came off the better. So I think the blur in your photo really portrays their agility. I gave your photo a 7. If it was a motion blur challenge, 8. Great shot.

Very nice shot... Whereas the first one is a good photo this one remains ingrained in someone's memory. If I saw it again many months down the line I would instantly recognise it, can't really say the same for the first one. Bravo for a a bold and unique submission.

I for one liked it. Gave it a 6. Brave effort IMO

I voted 9 on this :-) Loved it. Really shows what cats are like, not always sweet and cuddly pets, but wild animals.
I do miss my cats when at uni though, so im a bit of a sucker for reminder photos!

It's always good to experiment. Keep trying different things with motion blur and action shots. You'll know you have a good one when the caliber and uniqueness of the image transcends the distractions.

The seascape would have only been a safe entry if you had leveled the horizon. It needs a slight cw rotation, as the tilt does not appear to be intentional.

Sometimes it's good to have a stronger appeal for a narrow audience. I've had a few of those.

I gave you an 8 for this, I for one thought it was brilliant, I loved the motion blur, the capture, just the whole thing, your right when you say it wont appeal to some people, but guess what, you appealed to a lot more people than you thought you would. And that in its own sense is worthy of all those favs you got.

Keep up the motion blur!

I ended up giving this one a 7, The reason I gave it a 7 was because this type of shot that makes you stop to really take the time to look at it, at first glance I was ready to give it a 4 or 5 but it drew me in and I found myself taking time to ponder it. The more I pondered the more interesting it became.

Siggav...I'm on the same page with you. My own entry was a blurry photo (and I'm disappointed to say not nearly as dramatic or wonderful as yours!), but still received 4 favs and 17 comments for which I'm very grateful. As always, the lesson for me is to improve my sense of humor when entering any of these challenges, and this particular challenge had high entertainment value and I was not disappointed despite my own tragic score.

Despite the score, your photo is fabulous and well-appreciated by those who see its dramatic and as Posthumous said "exciting" impact.

Well done!
