i've read ( and seen a million ads ) for rosetta stone software for language learning. but the price tag is - well large !

of course they don't offer any type of demo that i could find - and due to that i'm not willing to shell out a minimum of close to $300 for a single lesson series ( almost $600 for the full package 1-2-3 lessons ).

so i ask if anyone has any luck with other software ?

i'm looking at byki. much cheaper - but not sure it is as robust as they seem to make it out to be. i have the 'lite'/free version. and have found it sort of like a phonetic dictionary so far. sort of lacking. i want my speech to be critiqued so to speak...

any thoughts ?

My husband has been using Spanish for Dummies which is really working out well LOL. He also has the Rossetta Stone for spanish although he stopped using it
Of course I'm Mexican so it makes it that much more easier for him

First of all, you need to consider what YOUR learning style is and match it to the program.
Rosetta Stone uses the immersion method, which works very well for some people. It basically just means being thrown in at the deep end, hearing it as if you were in that country, learning by example with very little rhyme or reason, let alone a system.

However, if that style doesn't suit you, you'll hate it.
I am the other type of learner. I need rules, I need grammar lessons, I need structure. If I don't have those, I'll never get it.

Thankfully I learned English the structured way, as well as my little bit of Italian.
I have tried doing Spanish the immersion way, but I just can't make sense of it that way.
