DEADLINE for ENTERING: January 31st, 2009
01/12/2009 10:44:50 PM · #3
but... comments would then all go to jdannels too!

I have a question - do we comment on the photos while they are in jdannels hands, or wait until the owners are revealed? I should think you couldn't repost the photos in the owners' portfolios and retain the comments...
01/12/2009 10:54:08 PM · #5
cut and paste the comments into the photo description?
01/13/2009 12:01:19 AM · #6
I thought after the challenge the user could post the image in their portfolio.
then go quote each comment left on their photo in my folder, or copy them altogether and paste them as a single comment on their own image. This way people can feel free to comment, keep entries anonymous and retain the comments.
I will not mark comments helpful since its not my call and I think it would take me a long time to mark them all as I expect lots of commenting. Even though your comment helpful ratio will get skewed. The world will continue. :P
I will start a thread once I receive a 5 or 6 entries. Then I will post new entries either every night or when i get a few depending on how busy I am or fast they come in.
Remember to email me a title if you want one.
I am not planning to keep the entries after the results because they aren't really my images, I am just hosting them for a bit. :)
Good Luck, I will check back later to see if we have any changes.

so, just so I am sure: "Do NOT post your photo in this or any other thread" means it needs to be an image that has not been in our portfolio/profile etc, either?

And THANKS for doing this!! (the underground movement is growning LOL)

I might try this. Do I have to have an original for verification? I rarely keep any original photo files.

I think if it's in your portfolio, you could probably just move it to your workshop. But, I'm not making the rules.

sounds good to me. Just make it go away during this challenge. And no challenge entries!

Just to be sure I'm reading this right, images shot in January, 2009 are eligible for "Best of 2008 Posthumous"?

Yes, I'm easy.

What is the purpose of this?

Why not just enter the Best of 2008 challenge?

I get the side challenges and side tournaments and all, but having a side challenge that mirrors an existing challenge seems to be redundant to me.

Has Langdon or the Site Council blessed this?

By the time this one goes up for "voting" the "Best of 2008" will have come and gone from our screens. So the timing is good, actually; with the "traditional" DPC annual award fresh on our minds, we will be able to celebrate the "unconventional" with a vengeance.

Let us say one wanted to judge such a contest. Someone way under the radar. Someone whose talent is laughable. Someone who is further underground than the "established underground" with their conformist bent. Someone so far beyond the pale that this person's opinion would be either ignored or universally scorned.

Where would this person sign up? Other the the commitment to comment any every entry what are the qualifications? Are there any swell parting gifts?

I took the original post to be saying that anyone who commented on all the entries would become a judge, and ONLY those who commented on all the entries. Which I presumed to mean that these individuals would be polled for their rankings, or somesuch. I could be wrong. I often am.

And we know how painful that can be! ;-)

are composites allowed (meaning diptychs/triptychs)?

I'd assume so: "DO as much or as little editing as you like. Draw the whole thing from scratch if you want."

I ain't polling anybody. It's all honor system.

Requirements to be a judge:

1. Two years extensive study of Dada, to be witnessed and verified by bluebirds.
2. Must cast a shadow at noon.
3. Have access to chocolate and a post office.

And yes, composite all you want. After this is over, when and if you put your photo in your portfolio, it would be nice for you to include your editing/creating steps.

eta: nevermind i guess that line says i can, can't i?
