rock band 2!

guitar hero is a fun game as well but its has small errors in the multiplayer.

and the drums are wayy better in rb2, even before the upgraded kit.

Rock Band 2. My kids received it for Christmas and love it. My son has played Guitar Hero and found it fun but now that he has played Rock Band 2 he says it far surpasses Guitar Hero.

The OP is not asking about just Guitar Hero, but Guitar Hero World Tour which, like Rock Bank, includes drums, microphone, guitar...

I would get Guitar Hero World Tour if you already have or might ever get the regular guitar hero game (which is fun by itself) - we got Rock Band when it first came out and GH World Tour was not available...but we also have the regular Guitar Hero and the guitar from Rock Band is NOT compatible with Guitar Hero (at least not in any way of which I am aware)...if we had World Tour, we could use the guitar from that game and the guitar from guitar hero to have two guitars when playing guitar hero (for battles, etc) which is a great part of guitar hero. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...

I don't know what other differences there may be because I have never played GH World Tour (except I have heard the drums are better on GHWT than RB).

Never played RB2, but GH:WT has, in my opinion, a far stronger track list.

i have both, and my take is get GH- WT as the full set because the instruments are better quality, and the drums have cymbols (5 pads total) at this point the rock band ones have 4 pads so it will not work in the hardest mode of GH, There are also features on the guitars which are better than the RB ones (slide / tap pad), all of the instruments are compativble with both games, so if down the road you want to get rock band you can do that with just the game and not the whole bundle. just my 2 cents

On the other hand, the guitars from Guitar Hero are fully compatible with Rock Band/Rock Band 2. (At least on the 360).

This isn't an easy decision. My advice would be to look up the song lists of both games and make your decision based on that. Rock Band 2 also has way, way, way more downloadable content.

*EDIT* Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the instruments. Both games' drum kits are notoriously hit and miss, and you could fill up this entire server with claims from both sides that each one is better than the other, but in reality, it's just luck of the draw either way. Both allow the return of manufacture defects on the drums as well.

As far as I know, the guitars are NOT compatible between the games on the Wii...not compatible either way (RB guitar won't work in GH, and GH guitar won't work in RB). I believe the situation is different with other game systems.

I personally prefer the GH set (because of song list and guitar compatibility), so if you decide you want the RB set, let me know and I'll sell you mine cheap! ;-)

There are two deciding factors, one of which many people have already mentioned.

a) Song list. Especially as I'm not sure that either game can download additional songs on the wii. Go onto wikipedia and check out the song lists for both games, as the game play is close enough that this really, hands down, is the deciding factor.

b) Feel of the instruments. And I don't primarily mean the drums, I primarily mean the guitar. The Rock Band and Guitar Hero games guitars feel substantially different. The buttons feel different, the strum bars feel different. I couldn't say one is better than the other - some songs work better with one style guitar, some work better with the other. I personally feel that the Rock Band 2 guitar is one of the best of the 20+ guitars that have been made for the games on the various systems.

I've owned GH, GH2, GH:WT, RB, and RB 2, and love them all. I can tell you that my heart is with Harmonix, who made the first two GH games and now makes the RB games. I find Rock Band's visuals to be cleaner and less obnoxious, which honestly becomes an issue after a while.

But it all comes down, as others have said, to song list.

After playing all the guitar heroes, I tried my borther in laws RB2 and it felt a little clunkier to me. The Guitar Hero World Tour just felt a lot cleaner and more accurate, that's just me though.

GH:WT is the only one that DOES have song downloading for the Wii... which means that the song list will keep expanding so long as they keep adding songs.

Resurrecting this thread to ask if anybody playing Rock Band 2 for the Wii has noticed certain songs from their downloaded content disappear? It seems strange, but a few songs I download go away. I can redownload them, but it's a pain.

Anybody else experience this?

you sure you're not filling up the available storage? sort of like a ipod nano. the oldest stuff gets overwritten when space is short.

Well, that was a problem at one point. Not overwriting, but my space was full. I got a SD card and that fixed that problem. And it doesn't seem to be a SD card problem because some of the songs on the SD card show up. In fact, most of them. Most recently I was missing 3 songs out of about 20 downloaded.

it appears you're not the only one with similar issues. you can peruse the forums at //www.rockband.com ( their search feature is about as good the one here :) and it's mainly a bunch of whiny kids posting there ( it seems to me anyway )... but there are a couple threads with people saying some songs shows as purchased in the store, but are not downloaded.

sounds like a glitch.

That was definitely an issue with the PSP version. Some newer songs would overwrite the older ones.

We just picked up RB Beatles for the Wii. Must have if you are a Beatles fan.

We are using the original RB 1 instruments.

Im debating snagging that for Xbox.

your RB 1 drumset still works??? that's impressive! my roommates and I went through 3 of them. we just broke our RB 2 foot pedal, but a little duct tape and it's good as new. we're pretty tough on our plastic instruments.

My 9 year old son is a drummer, takes lessons anyway. So he is exclusive to the drums in our house. I think that is the one instrument in these types of games that can actually help in playing in real life, singing, too to some degree, although I think the vocals are pretty forgiving at the easier levels. It teaches him to keep the beat better and gives him ideas for his lessons and free play time. So far it has held up. We got the set this past Christmas.

i agree, playing the plastic drums translates way more to a real set. although, i suppose the guitar works on your finger speed and strength a little? drums are my primary RB instrument and people have asked me if i've played real drums before. i suppose it's helped me with my steering wheel drumming while rocking out in the car. and if i may be so bold:

yeah i know, it's one of the easier "hardest" songs in RB 1, but c'mon, i need to brag a little ;)
