A couple of weeks ago, my dog caught an opossum and brought it to the back door. It was alive, but 'playing possum' all curled up.
I retrieved the possum from the dog and wanted to photograph it.
I grabbed my Canon Rebel XTi with 24-105 lens, but it didn't have a CF card in the slot. The closest one was in my 40D, so I removed the card from the 40D and put it in the XTi. They both have the same size sensor, so I thought it would be OK.
I took the photos and reviewed them on screen and they were OK, so I took the possum to the back of the yard for him to escape.
The next day, when I tried to download the photos, all I could get were the photos taken with the 40D. I put the card back in the XTi - no photos could be reviewed.
I went to Google and put in data recovery. Several freeware products and some commercial products came up.
I tried the free ones - no XTi photos.
I tried 3 commercial products, before I found one that showed a new directory.
These commercial products all show the directory structure in the trial version, but you cannot see the photos.
So I paid the $40-50 online for the third one that did have a new directory showing and downloaded the files. IT WORKED! I have my 'playing possum' pics.
FYI, the name of the software that worked was DATA DOCTOR RECOVERY
This might work for you if you have a similar problem.
