how old is the camera strap you use ?

i've got a Domke strap i've had since i was 15 - so about 20yrs old now...

it's been on an old Nikon F1 ( i think ) - a canon AL-1, a canon 300d, a canon 10d, and now my current canon 30d. BTW - the canon AL-1 has one of those cheesy 'canon digital' straps mounted on it ;)

it's been to costa rica, the bahamas, st. thomas, the czech republic, poland, and canada, and up and down the east coast of the USA.

i can't give it up - it's part of me - well that and it hasn't worn out yet.

it's got a nice rubber gripper to keep it from sliding around, and can be shortened to a wrist/hand strap instead of around the neck.

it's never been washed.

anyone got an older strap they're still using... ?/?

op/tech pro strap about 4 years now, maybe 5. Got one on every camera (each a different color).

Can't say I've got such an emotional attachment as you do though.

I wonder am I the only person who has never used a camera strap and has no desire to use one? I find it gets in the way (and I've never dropped my camera).

i would venture - you are in a substantial minority there...

I use the same op/tech pro straps that Prof_Fate uses, but half of the time they are un-hooked, so you are not alone. When they ARE attached, I find that I use them as stabilizers (hooked around the elbow) and very rarely around my neck.

so do you walk around one handed all the time ? ( one hand taken by the holding of the camera )

i don't get it.

Why would I need two hands free to walk around? Yes, one hand is holding the camera.

i dunno for balance, and to pick things up and the normal stuff you don't think about having two hands for....

you mean you don't walk on your hands ?

I use a strap from the 1970's with a funky hypnotic pattern on one side, and the other side is suede with an elastic band to hold my film canisters. I get all kinds of looks, but I had to resist the Nikon D80 strap.

LOL. I've fallen twice while out with my camera in my hand. Once in the snow and once on a trail. Both times I was lying on the ground with my camera hand outstretched above me....both times my camera was fine. Me, not so much. A sprained ankle once and bruised knees the other time.

knock on wood - throw some salt over your shoulder. it sounds like it's only a matter of time until that thing flies from your hand.... ;)

I have a guitar strap from the '60s that I still use -- does that count?

I use a new camera strap every time I get a new camera..........of course that means a new one every few weeks. :D

Actually the one on my 1DMKIII is about a year and 2 months old, and the one on my 1DMKIIn is brand new as the previous owner never opened it. I carry two cameras with me all the time so one is always tossed over my shoulder.

I've got an old Kodak strap that started out on my Yashica TL-Electro X, then to my Canon A-1. I still have the aluminum screw top film containers from back in the day, in the elastic holders. I've had it for 30 years now.

Still use it. Once in a while people will ask what the cannisters are for. Depending on my mood...

1. I smuggle dope in there.
2. I put the pictures in there when the memory cards are full.
3. Film
