I'm thinking about using it in a challenge, an I'm curious how many people will get it.

greek letter of the alphabet.
Not sure I would identify the letter itself, and it has no meaning to me, so you can draw your own conclusions.

It's also a number, (aprox 1.62) that appears often in nature. The ratio of PHI to one is known as the divine proportion, and is seen amazingly often in nature.

look at some of the stuff in the tiny menue on the left.

Er, is that the "golden proportion" that is seen in nautilus shells, etc? I thought about doing something like that too. Its much harder to show something that is clearly in in proportion than clearly out of proportion... I don't think too many people would get it if it was a depiction of the letter itself. With only two challenge entries so far, I have already found out that you have to be pretty explicit about how your picture relates to the challenge or people won't pick up on it. Understandable as there are so many pictures to rate...

This website explains Phi and the divine proportion...

...maybe I'm a dufus but it is a bit cerebral for me...

I don't know how voters would respond. Some can't seem to figure out how very obvious photos fit the challenge...wait til they get a load of this!

If you've read The DiVinci Code, it had a lot about PHI

yeah I know about PHI (THETA's close relative), but I also know about that PHI too.. :D

It's a cool idea for a subject, and for those that don't know about the concept it would be an interesting learning exercise. I don't know how practical it would be though for shooting. And the judging would be a real bore, the same pictures of shells, flowers and pentagrams over and over again hehee.. I don't know.. I'm new here, but it would be worth a try. :D

I expect it would be wasted. Same with serendipity, looks like finding money is one of the few meanings ppl could get out of it. My dictionary states that Serendipity means: Pure luck in discovering things you were not looking for, so I went for an unusual take on that. Too many comments are like "duh, whats this?" as though they think there's luck in finding money, but not in finding an unusual view of something.
