Hi there...

Looking at picking up a D40 or a D60 for a friend...

I've been looking at the two, struggling to justify the extra cash for the newer D60...

From what I can see, it has slightly better performace, a few more in camera editing options and a 10mp sensor. These seem to be the only 'improvements' over the D40.

Also, the D40 is going (has gone?) out of production. But aside from that... I can't see any major differences.

If you know more about them, or have used both, please enlighten me!

Cheers in advance!

The dust reduction system alone is worth the price diff.

i would probaly go with the D60 it came out not to long after the D40 and as you said its a little bit better performance wise. i have the D40x and i have no complaints works great, and produces some amazing photos aswell. so i guess its all up to you.hope everything works out for you on this matter.

I love my D40, 6mp is plenty as long as you arent making poster size prints. And the D40 has a faster flash snyc speed which can come in very handy when using fill flash. Are you really going to be using in camera editing? I would save your money and spend it on more important things like lenses.

i find it kinda funny that nikon chose to name a camera the D60 considering canon had the same model not too long ago. oh and a D30 too...

imitation is flattery is suppose ;}

D70s 6.1 MP

It's not poster size, that's one panel of a 6' x 11', three panel image.

The printer said the same thing about a 6MP camera when I asked him about a really big image.

He told me a bunch of times during the printing how amazed he was.

I regularly make fairly large prints.

It's all about the caliber of your shooting.

Don't forget, until recently, IreneM used a D50 as her main camera, she has a D70, and she'll tell you the same thing.

Oh, PLEASE!!!

It's slotted in to take over from the D40/x, and D50 & D70 have already been used.

How do you figure it's imitation?

It's just a numbering system.

Tell your friend to by a Canon... Best bang for the buck.

I wouldn't even look at a D40 over a D40X or a D60. BTW the D40x is 95% identical to the D60. Go for the D60.

Your preference for the inferior says much:)

i think the D60 from canon came out in like 2002. and the D30 preceded that. yeah it's a numbering system, and it's been used before ie. imitated...
