Picked up my Canon 5D Mark II together with the Canon 24-105 f/4 L lens yesterday. No time for a review yet as I really haven't had much time to play, but here is a sample image at ISO 6400 and sample video.

First impressions:
- The camera feels better to me than the old 5D body - kind of a cross between the 5D and the 1D Mark III
- The menu system looks a lot like my 1D Mark III - a welcome improvement
- Loving the high ISO performance
- Videos are going to be .... interesting.

Hey David, I'll take a minute while the "Original" size of your linked photo is STILL loading in another tab to say congrats and man! am I jealous. That's an amazing example at ISO 6400, wow.

Thanks for sharing David, This is really cool! Looks lovely! I also will admit jealousy!

Have fun with the new camera.

This camera may make me switch from Oly. I'm sizing up my gear to see what I can get for my entire kit.

I want to have the flexibility of high ISO quality.

New toys are always fun.
The 6400 image is not bad.
How practical do you see the vidio will be.
Without Image stabilisation and autofocus like on dedicated video cameras ai think it will be a bit of a pain to use.

If the lens has image stabilization ... then you have image stabilization (as far as I know, it doesn't turn off). And unlike the D90, the 5DII *does* have auto focus during video.

My sample video I posted was using auto focus (although I messed with it during the recording to see what it would look like).

Cool. The ISO 6400 shot looks good. Very comparable to my D3.I think the D3 edges it out a little, but I'm not pushing 21MP. As for the video, so I can't seem to get a straight answer, does it record sound or not?

In case you missed it in the DPReview forums, I'm ticked that you cancelled your Adorama order when those of us with Amazon orders haven't heard a word yet. =D

Congrats, now go add it to your profile - you'll be the first owner!

Yeah, you should hear us talking on the video I posted. It has a built-in microphone, or you can plug in an external mic.

My bad, the first time I played it there wasn't any sound, but the next time it did.

New blog post with similar information to what you see here.

A nifty feature is what Canon calls the "Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction" or vignetting correction depending on which lens is attached. Have you tried that feature on your attached 24-105? Cuz I see vignetting on the first Temple square picture.

Personally I love the feel vignetting adds to a photo, but maybe there are situations where I wouldn't want it...

Me too. They added vignette control in a software update to the D3 and I have it on the lowest setting. Typically, I'm exaggerating the vignette in Post!

I'm really looking forward to reports from the early adopters. I won't be upgrading at least until Spring, but I am eventually going to look very seriously at the Mark II even though I told myself I'd skip an upgrade cycle after being a very early adopter on the 5D. I did not anticipate either the extended product cycle (3 years vs. 1.5 years) nor the extent of changes in the Mark II. Congrats on a great new tool, and looking forward to your thoughts!

Nice to see that wonderful camera in such deserving hands!

I'll be watching with great interest for more reports from you, David.

Pics look great so far and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.

Congrats David!

Love to hear updates on how the camera feels.

By the way, do you find the autofocus any better than the original 5D?

Good question - I was wondering that . .

I think it's too early to tell. Right now I'm forcing myself to use the 24-105 lens. It's an f/4 lens and my most used lenses are f/2.8. The camera will naturally focus faster and more accurately using an f/2.8 lens. But I also think that the focusing mechanism on the 24-105 is feeling slower than my other lenses (i.e. I don't think it make a very good sports lens). So I think most of my judgment of the focusing is so far lens related rather than camera body related. I'll know more when I put the 24-70 or 70-200 lenses on it.

Well, any time you get a good sense of how the focus compares to the original 5D, I'm itching to hear...

By the way, happy thanksgiving!

Amazing 6400 iso shot.
I am anxious to read more reports on this camera. Does this have a substantial feel in the hand? I picked up both a 40D & 50D today and they felt pretty solid & meaty.

Congrats on the new toy!
