I know there are many of us here who like and use Canvas on Demand, many for the free canvas we recieved. But I finally sold one to a family(they are a tough sell in my area) and they want it framed. I'm curious if anyone can recommend which frame option to use from them? Standard or one of the premiums as I dont normally have them framed but this family specifically asked to have it framed. Also if you have a photo of one of their canvas' framed I'd appreciate that.

BTW I have to order it by monday so any quick answers would be most appreciated.

I am just about to be in a similar boat. A family wants an image printed out 24x36 and is interested in the frame option as well. I have several prints from them but none taht are framed. I was contemplating doign the studio sample route to get the 40% off and trying out 3 different frames. But unfortunately I have not done it yet so this post is really of no help to you. So basically I am saying that I am looking forward to a proper answer as well.

To make my post a bit more clear. I want the canvas printed and framed when I get it. I would like Canvas on Demand to do it all for me. I prefer not to have the canvas done then have to frame it myself. So if someone has a sample of their work and an opinion of the quality I'd like to see/hear that. I know the quality of the canvas, just need frame info.

I just got a 16x24 with their standard black frame. It was put together decently (no big mismatches at the joints). There were no major dings. However, they use an interesting beehive hanger (for lack of a better name). When I screwed it to the frame, it started splitting. I may have been too close to the joint, but I thought I was a decent bit away. The frame seems to be made of MDF by my eye. I'd take a closer look at it, but it's at work.

Overall, probably good enough, but it's far from superior.

Thanks Doc, the standard frame didnt look that good online, so I'm glad you chose it to confirm that. :D

I am going to steer them to the premium frames in walnut or back.

Any other takers?

Oh I want to add that I had them install the hardware, so I have a wire hanger on it across the back that they put on.

Thanks Erica! That looks beautiful and what a great shot and frame selection to set it off. I also always have the hardware attached and dustcover as well. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Great example.

OK I am going to bump this thread and see if anyone has ordered from COD lately. I placed my order a week and a half ago........they charged my CC for the canvas and still havent shipped it, or even placed it in my order history. I chatted on their website to "Jason" who informed me the day after I placed my order they had a "party" and then were closed the next day. He then proceeds to tell me my canvas has been printed and coated and its drying, but should arrive this week still(not likely since I paid for ground shipping and its not been framed) but at least I had hoped it would be shipped. Its friday and still no Canvas On Demand shipping confirmation and a request to talk to someone via e-mail isnt answered yet(although its only been a few hours). I placed a similar order without framing from another company for myself to check their work and its already arrived(ordered same day as COD one).

So has anyone ordered and received their Canvas from here lately? My client would really like the Canvas they are giving for a gift.

Short version: Canvas On Demand really botched things up and then took extraordinary steps to resolve the problem. I highly recommend them.

The details:

I recently ordered 28 canvases from them about ten days before a show that I was going to be in. On the order confirmation page and on the confirmation email, thumbnails for one image (in two sizes) were missing. I called them and they said that these files didn't make it to them. They were huge files and I told them to cancel only that part of the order and to proceed with the other 26 prints. I followed up with an email that specifically stated to "Cancel only this part of the order. I am not cancelling the rest of the order."

I called them four days before the show to see how the order was progressing and they said that they thought the order had been cancelled. On a second look they responded that they were actually waiting for the rest of the files and that the delay was due to me not following up and resending the files like I said I would on the phone.

I told them that I attempted to resend the files and again their system timed out and booted me out. I told them to look up their emails and that they would see that I canceled only the part of the order that I had trouble uploading and that the rest was very important to me. They looked and basically said "Oh, yeah. I see that now."

After telling them that my showing was to start in three days they started on my order immediately and shipped it next day air at a cost to them of over $600.00.

I told them that I understand that anybody can make a mistake and that I would, at the right opportunity, tell the DPC community how far they went to correct the problem and get my order to me on time.

Again, I highly recommend Canvas On Demand. This is the third order that I have placed with them. The first two were problem free, this problem was resolved (at great cost to them), and I have been very happy with their prints.

Ah, perhaps it is the framing that's the problem, Matt?

If I were you, I'd call them. I've had more mixed results with their online chat interface (with questions), I think you'll get better results from calling.

I spoke on the phone with a supervisor this morning. He says there is no excuse and it should have shipped already. I ordered one from MPIX and one from COD for the same client. The Mpix one is here already and the COD is still not ready to ship. Although he assured me it will ship today(if not they will overnight it monday. I have to deliver both of them by Thursday as they are having a 50TH anniversary party for their parents and these are gifts for them. I just hope it actually arrives and doesnt have any issues.

Great. If they are the same shot, it will be interesting to hear your review "comparing" the two services for quality.

Or even if different shots, if "similar"!

Just wanted to update this thread.

My Canvas finally arrived today. They paid two day shipping to get it to me on time to deliver it.

Quality comparison between the two, I would have to say that COD delivered a much nicer overall package then MPIX did. However the service was just horrible. Maybe this was an isolated case. But it will stick in my mind when I place my next order. My original order stated it would ship in 3-5 business days, I had to complain and talk to a supervisor on the seventh business day to get is shipped to me in time to deliver it to my client. The canvas is beautiful as well as the framing, the dustcover on the back has a few flaws in it, obviously sloppy work in getting it applied. But thats not something thats going to show or even be something a client will notice. But I do.
