I purchased my last camera from Circuit City and everything worked out ok. However; in the near future I suspect you should not order anything online from them. There could be some deals at the store, depending on the location. CC is closing 150 stores before 12/31. The incident that caused me the most pause is discussed here. Just a heads up.

This is why when I buy ANYTHING that comes boxed whether its unopened or not and no matter what the price tag, I ALWAYS open it up on the counter and go through the entire box. There have actually been a couple "factory sealed" boxes that have had marked up or missing product in them. So giving my past experience, no matter how much I trust the store I always check in the store in front of the clerks...

I would probably hold off any major purchases from Circuit City for the time being. Sony stopped delivering merchandise to them because they aren't convinced that they can pay.

Good news is that there may some crazy close out sales.

Eight years ago Circuit City stock was selling for $63+ a share, today it's at 26 cents a share. I think they will close more than 150 stores. At this rate they may go out of business. If that happens over 45,000 workers would be out of work. Ouch!

3 years ago maybe less i bought a Canon PowerShot S2 IS and the lens was broke, only being the first time I had touched the camera I didn't know it. it worked but the zoom never came ut all the way about a week later it decided to come out all the way and sure enough got stuck.. well try taking that back and explaing it..

I bought the waranty when I got it, only when they sent it off it came back as "dropped" yesh and guess what.. that isn't covered under the waranty.. so not only did I spend 400 bucks on a camera that was broken when I bought it, the warranty didn't cover what was broken because now i was accused of being the on who dropped it.

apparently what had happened I found out about a year later from a friend i made who was a manager at the time that happened ( this came out over a drink one night way later down the road) the shipment of the cameras was dropped somewhere along the way because I wasn't the only one who came back to say it was broke, yet we all got screwed.

IMO Bhcameravideo.com is the best. I purchased the Casio 10mp with super slow motion...up to 1000 fps. After giving it a go, I realized that it was not for me. (Let me know if you want the details). I took about 110 shots and about 30 minutes of video.

I read the return policy. It said must have all package material and less than 200 shots on the cam. I called them to get a return authorization. They gave it to me and said my card would be refunded when camera was inspected.

The card was refunded the day they received the camera. I then called back and bought the D90...which I should have done in the fist place !

I ordered a filter from CC and it took over a month to get it!! I ended up spending more on another one locally because there was no way I was going to shoot a football game with a $500.00 plus lens with no filter protecting it. Finally came and now I am stuck with an extra filter. I wouldn't order from them again even if they weren't in trouble.

Circuit City Stores Closing

Maybe they should have considered lowering their prices before they decided they were going to destroy thousands of lives with unemployment. I'm seriously surprised that Radio Shack is even still in business. I refuse to buy anything from Radio Shack unless I absolutely need it right then and there. Circuit City on the other hand I have an extended warranty that they better flipping honor if something happens to my camera.

i think a lot of the extended warraties are purchased by the store through a third party. the store merely sells you the coverage. i'd look into what company backs the warranty. if i'm correct they should honor it whether circuit city goes under or not.

A couple of years ago Circuit City closed a couple of stores in this area, I believe only 1 store in this area is included in the 150 they are closing now. I usually avoid shopping there unless they have an unbeatable deal. I have never had good luck with customer service in their stores, I usually end up with some young kid who is only working there for beer money and has no real knowlege of the products he is supposed to.

We have one store in town that is affected by the closing. It's no shock. I've wondered for years how they stayed in business. They were *never* busy, and as Brian said, the knowledge level of their staff was abysmal.

I hate CC. Whenever we go there, it takes so long for someone to come and offer you help. I can't tell you how many times my hubby and I have walked out of there because no one would help us. Good... I'm glad to see them go!

You would think that they would strategically close the stores so Joe the plumber doesn't have to go to another state to get something.

Towns with 2 stores or stores within a 50 mile radius should be closing 1 of the stores but not one in the middle of a town where the next CC is over 100 miles away.

BTW they are not closing the one here where I live.

I never shop at CC, their prices are the highest around. Plus, I remember a year or so ago, they laid off everyone that was making over a certain amount of money. Then they said they could come back at the lower wage. With that kind of practice, I'm not surprised to see them go away.

Rarely the best prices, always the worst customer service, usually a dirty store. If ever a business deserved to get kicked in the groin by market forces then Circuit City is it.
