Can’t say much about this babe, cause it was a contact for a few minutes only...

But the skin is smooth, a pleasure for the touch, and has a beautiful body that creates the feeling of a substantial, elegant and robust material in your hand.

For sure, a promising relationship (full of great moments) for the next few years.

After all, my first impressions are: - It’s easy to fall in love with the new EOS 5D Mk II

Sorry about the quality of the images. It was a spy P&S camera doing the job.

Glad to hear it has a good feel to it! Where did you get your hands on one? I'm jealous. =)

So... what to do for the next 30 days...

sweet, I got to play with one here at the photoexpo a couple weeks ago and unfortunately I forgot to bring a memory card but it was awesome to play with and I was actually impressed with the AF while shooting video without it putting the mirror down...

Non the less I was drooling the entire time, good thing for good weather sealing :P

Having one on pre-order at Amazon, I've been watching all over the Internet for this info. From what I can tell there's nothing definite yet, but hopes are diminishing for anytime sooner than the original estimate of Nov 28th.

ETA: I'll let you guys know as soon as Amazon tells me anything.

Do you think it will be good? I read a review of the 50D that was pretty damn disappointing. Wondering if the 5D Mark II will be as well... I need a new camera.

The 50D review on DPR is only ok - reckons that noise and dynamic range are no better than the 40D.

Sure Jorge... but did you notice that there's also a pretty nice looking new camera as well? ;O)

That's why I worry that the 5D Mark II might be a similar disappointment.

That doesn't make sense. The 50D is apparently no better than the 40D (which is still pretty good) and that's why you worry the 5D Mk II won't be good? Haven't the reviews for it been stellar so far?

At the expo In New York they had it taped. They won't let you put a card into a pre-production model. I asked.

I got a kick out of DPReview's 50D review. They had nothing but praise for the handling, responsiveness and user interface, but still only gave it an 8.5 for Ergonomics and Handling. WTF?
And they complained that the acuity (per pixel sharpness) wasn't as good as some cameras with less Mpx, but it still out-resolved the rest. What they don't realize is that it's not bad to be a little over-sampled (slightly soft image) although the tradeoff is a larger file for the same amount of detail. An over-sampled file will have a less "digital" look and will print better, even if it has *no* more detail than an equivalent but smaller file.
The list of features on the 50D is truly impressive for the price point, even if that price point puts it above the competition.
I do, however, agree with DPReview that 15Mpx is pushing it for APS-C sensors. After all, it's like packing 38.5 Mpx into a 35mm sensor! To image at that density and maintain parity in noise with the last generation is impressive. Apparently they did give up some DR in the shadows, which is not unexpected, given that the full well electron capacity of the smaller pixels will be less, and this is what determines DR.
For my money it will definitely be the 5DII. I see the 50D as a good indication of the ergonomics of the 5DII, and that is not at all disappointing, quite the opposite.

- I heard that delivery was expected first half of November but heard too end of November.
- The kit version (Body+24-105) will be shipped first.

- I don't know what you mean with the word "good". I've a 20D for years and it's a pretty dam good camera for any serious amateur and I did some images (with the 20d) that I'll be proud for the rest of my life. This camera (the 5dmk2) for sure has the same quality (or even better) than the amazing old 5D used by many professionals. The price will be much less than the original 5D some years ago. So, what to expect more? I go for this upgrade cause I want bigger size images and the 21MP for sure will give me that. I really don't think the problem lies in the DSLR cameras available in the market nowadays, but with the photographers owners of these cameras. Cause they don't know how to take a good image, they spend all the time talking about noise and sharp. All they know is to zoom at 100%, 200% and 400% and watching the pixels, looking for something to talk about. They don't even understand that noise it's a great effect for an image. Consider this: -Some of the best images ever made, where executed with cameras with less quality than any DSLR camera. See here
So, in my opinion, yes it is a great camera like any other serious DSLR that you can buy in the market.

I assume you know full well what he's talking about, Doc, and were just looking for an excuse to sound young and funky with your "snap"... =D

But for those who don't - DR is dynamic range, and smaller pixels can collect fewer photons (smaller electron "wells"), and therefore cannot differentiate as many levels of brightness. =)

I've heard both as well, but I dare not get my hopes up. Apparently Canon told Adorama "end of October" but were highly caught off guard by the initial demand of 3.5x their expectations.

Wow really? there was a huge lineup to play with it at the show here and most of them were popping out the card that the Canon guy had in there and using their own, the Canon guys said nothing to no one...

Ya, uh, I knew all that. Actually it was the term "full well electron capacity" that freaked me out...

BTW, the "early November" speculation is because Canon typically posts camera manuals online about 2 weeks in advance of the release. The official 5DII manual was posted on Canon's site Oct 24.

I checked a few hours ago. Apparently it's going to arrive next week here in TW. If anyone wants to pass me a couple grand, I'd be happy to become an early adopter... Looks like I have to wait until the summer or Chinese New Year...

The lady at the shop recommended that I steer clear of the first few models... 50d QC issues anyone?

Already got 2500 saved up for it, but it's the 16-35 f/2.8L II that's the snarl in my plans still.

I've got a secret lens in mind for walk-around that will hopefully keep my funds available for the big hit on the 16-35...

Save yourself the $$$ and go the 17-40 unless that extra stop is really going to be making a difference for you!

Which shop did you check with? That'd be sweet.

There's a latest rumors on delivery thread on DPreview that's kicking around the 7th, 18th, and early December. Ahh, it's so close. I can't wait to have a camera again! =)

BTW, I contacted Amazon support to try and get some info. I emailed two simple questions but received a horribly canned near-full-page response that didn't address either. That email was a waste of electrons, but I didn't really expect more. And hey, they responded within 5 hours, and that's all that counts, right?
