on the 5d, off the top of my head there are quite a few that are phenomenal:

Canon 70-200mm 2.8L - $1500
Canon 70-200mm 4.0L = $500
Canon 85mm 1.2L - $1800
Canon 85mm 1.8 - $350

Hope that's helpful,
Ryan

If you want L glass, you're going to pay for it. For portraits with a 5D, get the 85mm f1.2L

A decent substitute is the 85mm f1.8. It's not an L lens, but it's pretty damn good.

I dont have any portraits online with it on my 5D, although I do have a snapshot that will show you the 5D loves the 85F1.8.

Yeah its the only L in my bag, and one I've sold 3 times, only to repurchase it again. Its a must have lens. You could also do the 50F1.4 again not an L but damn good in its own right. Although I find 50mm a bit short on the 5D. My 70-200 also loves the 5D.

I hope no one minds if I horn in a bit on this thread as I have been wondering the very same thing only a portrait lens for the 40D. I only get to borrow the 5D. Thank you

Inexpensive as far as L goes, viable portrait focal length on 5D. 135 F2L
