Since I have a crappy photo printer and a limited budget, I've been looking for someplace where I can get 8 x 10's or larger printed. Price and quality are both consideration. I've been to kinko's in the past, but I was a little disappointed with the quality given they are like $12 a pop. Is there someplace generic that does a better quality than you'd expect (miejer, walgreens, ect...)? Or is it best to stick with specialty printing/framing places. Any place online worth a look as well? Thanks.

First things you need to consider when sending your images out for printing is monitor calibration and the colour profile of the image you are supplying to the printer. The latter will depend on the printer as they will expect the image to have a certain profile.

Meijer!! Meijer is pretty brilliant, way better than Walmart or Walgreens. Seriously. Their matte prints are actually quite good and clear. 8x10's are pretty expensive, since they only come in instant, but they do a good job.

I use a pro service from Exposure Manager, you can sell your stuff there, or buy from there at cost for yourself. They have great turn around time, they have great products, and I pay $3.15 for an 8x10. If you decide you want to try a year there, shoot me a PM and I'll give you a code for $5 off a yearly account, or a second month free on a monthly account.

I have used (and often still do) walmart, target and walgreens and there really has been minor differences in the them. I think it was Target that gave me the best matching colors but the others were close. I recently got this picture [thumb]724951 [/thumb] done at walgreens and had both glossy and matte done. The matte came out with a bit of a red tint to it but the glossy looked very nice. I think the lady behind the counter just didn't tell the computer that I was doing matte because I've done others there with a different lady and they came out fine.

When at Kinko's did you print it from their laser printers/copier or an actual kiosk machine? I wouldn't ever do one from their laser machines at least not without having it calibrated first. When I worked there we were supposed to calibrate it every morning and after a certain number of prints...yeah that happened. I usually did it in the morning and only before a very important job was to be produced...(I know, I know, they should all be equally important.)

I do also occasionally print from DPCPrints and have been very satisfied with the service but not when I want stuff quick.
