I got a 4th place in the "Pajama" Challenge. No complaints here at all. In fact, I was very pleasantly surprised. ESPECIALLY, since I uploaded the image before I changed the color profile to RGB and the colors and tones were very muddy.
My question for all of you is: Which version do you prefer, and how much difference would it have made in your voting?

I like the one with the pajamas hanging on the wire. Really nailed the challenge topic perfectly.
edit: the other one I wouldn't have scored as well, no.

I personally like your entry rather than the outtake. I can't explain why at the moment though. (Darn gnomes duct taped my eyes shut!)

| Besides the contrast, what's the difference? Both would have garnered the same reaction from me. |

Call it serendipity, but your mistake is better than the one you entered. The lighting comes across as a little harsh on your intended entry.
The mistake has a nice soft feel, which seems to compliment the softness most people associate with pajamas. |

I didn't vote in the challenge and only saw the these through the post here but looking at the two images the one thing that stands out to me is the white pajamas are whiter in the actual entry as well as the ruffling on the black pajamas at the end. The intended entry the whites are sort of pinkish and not as attractive. The bright colored tie on the gray pajamas are the only color that seems better in the intended entry to me.

Prefer the sky in the one you entered. PLUS the other one has too much of a pink tone.

I'm not on a calibrated monitor at the moment, but from what I can tell, I prefer the original. Ya done good!

I do like your outtake a little better, the colors seem more vivid. But I like the darker appearance in your entry as well, congrats on a great finish.
Which leads me to my bigger question... did (do) you shoot in Adobe RGB? I began to shoot in that mode a month or so ago at the suggestion by a friend. I do like the results.. until the photo hits the web. Then, like you say, the colors get "muddy". In one of my shots, a red mesa turned brown and I didn't fare too well in a contest. So I have (as of yesterday) gone back to shooting sRGB with my 40D.
Maybe you can tell me, with PS, how I can change over to RGB before posting a web-target photo. When I look at the "modes", the photo I shot in Adobe is listed as already being in sRGB when I am doing my post processing.... in any event, anything you can tell me or point me towards would be appreciated.

I shoot in Adobe RGB in RAW plus JPG. When I process, I bring the RAW image into PhotoShop(2) and use the converter. At the bottom of the converter, is a place where you can indicate the output size and the colorspace. When doing prints, I change the colorspace to ProColor and increase the size. When working with web images, I leave the colorspace at Adobe and leave the size.
Once the image is done, go under edit and choose "Change Color Profile" and change it to sRGB. The image should look the same as it has, but now when you save for web, the colors don't switch. It's the last step I do before the save for web. I save the PS file without the convert to web.
