The act of immediately reviewing your pics on the screen. Not totally sure how the term evolved.

Edit: From the Wikipedia entry on Chimping:
The phrase is most likely derived from comparison between the sounds and actions some make while reviewing images and those of an excited primate (Oooh! Oooh! Aaah!), or when a photographer is completely absorbed in the act of analysing, admiring or proudly displaying a shot to others.

I've personally never hooted like a chimp at my LCD, haha. I usually just say 'Dammit!'

That was fun. I especially liked the guy at the end doing celebrity photojournalist chimping impressions.

Time to get a real camera ... there are even some which are tough and kid-friendly. You might look into one of the water-resistant/waterproof ones (Panasonic or Olympus).

So Gorgeous! Too cute, I agree time to get a real camera.

In reference to GeneralE, the Olympus 770 SW takes respectable snapshots (minus anything involving a flash (TERRIBLE!)) and is nearly indestructable. I have dropped mine from over 8 feet onto concrete and only suffered scratches. Completely waterproof too. These shots also remind me of when I was a wee young'in, and had a tiny tiny old kodak without any film in it and would constantly go around taking "photos" of anything and everything.

Or is that a chimp off the old block? LOL (I know, groan)

Must be the way Olympus makes their stuff. I have an Olympus XA (35mm rangefinder pocket camera) that I bought in '82. The only reason I no longer use it is the switch to digital. It's been dropped more times than I can remember and still works perfectly.

I still use my Olympus D-490Z almost every day -- I bought it as my first digital camera in 2000. I took this candid yesterday at Isaac's sister's birthday party ...

Chip off the old block! Should make a daddy proud.

By the time he's 5 he'll be running circles around you in Photoshop! ;-)

You mean "Chimp" off the old block, right?

I've decided to get Conor this camera to start with. It's not that good as a "real camera" but he's still at the throw/drop stage so I think this'll be best for now. His younger brother can take it over when Conor gets a real camera like the shockproof Olympus.

Thanks for the nice comments and advice

I've chimped before, and I'm not afraid to chimp again...

Just goes to show you chimping was always in our nature, it just took digital to bring it out. I am sure there may have been chimpers in the dark rooms also but that is just to long of a wait, digital just enables us to chimp sooner......
