I have cut a person out of a photo and want to keep her separate from a background so that I can give it to her and she can put it on a background she wants. How can I save it and keep the image of her independent from a background?

Another way is to create a transparent background and save it as a .gif

*note that this will be a lossy way of doing it and will hurt image quality*

actually, what you want is PNG, since it will support alpha transparency.
google it if you are not sure what that is.
