hey, ive been working for a wedding photographer for the past 2 years and finally started shooting and all is going well. i am in the market to getting a newer lens at the time cause all ive got right now is a 70-200 which is far to much distance for the application. im lovin the 24-70 and or 24-105 but anything of the same focal range that i should be aware of? ive owned a tokina 12-24 but its much to wide. along with that note, im shooting the 20 and/or 30d now n days mostly and was thinking of upgrading to a used 5d body(should go down in price since the mk II released). would anyone recomend me to stick with the 1.6x bodys? if a full frame is above the horizon for me, wat would be the advice? thanx alot

If you can upgrade to full frame I would do it. Your 70-200 that you say is too long will become very usable for just about everything but group shots and other wide angles. When I shoot a wedding I use my 5D, 24-70 2.8L, and my 70-200 2.8L IS and that is about it for lenses. Maybe the 17-40 or equivalent would be nice for really wide angles of the wedding grounds or a church shot pre-ceremony. Nothing against the 1.6 bodys but just be aware of your lens choices. If you ever plan on going full frame, avoid the EF-S and 'digital' equivalents since they will not work on your new body. Also the full frame sensors are a little 'pickier' on lenses since it uses much more of the glass and not just the 'sweet spot' like the 1.6 bodys.

haha, sweet, you pretty much nailed it for me. but yea, i used the bosses 5d and fell in love with everything, PERIOD. what do you think the newer 5d will do to the older's price wise? i know that everyone says that glass is #1, but would u say that getting the body would be priority here, cause i can always borrow lens's when i shoot and stuff. just 24-70 on a 1.6 would be stressfull but totaly doable. thanxs

Get the 24-70 as you'll need or use 2.8 often. It's the most used lens for most of a wedding day.

Get the 50D - it's way better than the current/old 5D in many ways. FF gives you no real advantages IMO other than a brigher view finder and yeah, a more useable 70-200. The 10-22 EF-S lens is 1/2 the price of the FF 16-35L and just as good for over 99% of what you'll use it for. And you can get a 50 and 24-70 for about what a new 5D2 will set you back.

I do have to ask though -if you've been working for a wedding photog for 2 years, why are you asking here and not asking or taking his advice?
