Hi, how did you learn photoshop? did you take classes? did you just learn on your own? im having problems catching on with the more-than-normal stuff, do you suggest taking a class at the local college or somethign?

trial and error. haha......i know my college has a class specifically for photoshop though :]

I learned it at work, which had nothing whatsoever to do with photography. LOL! The photography part I learned by trial and error. A class wouldn't be a bad idea, but make sure it's one that's at your level. You don't want to put out good money to learn the stuff you already know how to do.

I'm self taught.

I did a very short course and thought it sucked big time - because they only taught the VERY basics on images they had, so by the time I got home and tried the same on my images nothing seemed to work - GRIN!

I have used the tutorials here at DPC - and they ROCK!

Any time I need to learn a technique I google it and find the tutorial that suits me.

Additionally I have a few books - Scott Kelby's The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers - was my first book and it was perfect - very step by step and made a lot of easy sense.

Not that I know much, but mostly trial and error. Also, from comments, forum posts, and tutorials here. I belong to a camera club and we have had several workshops.

I took a class once. Paid a couple hundred bucks learned some but not exactly what I was looking for. Learned mostly from online. You Tube, Ron Bigelow, DPC Tutorials, Photoshop Mama,etc...

THe best part is its all free online, which means more cash flow for gear.

Self taught. I learned Photoshop when I first got into web and graphic design in the mid 90's. Just bought a couple of books to learn the basic functions and experimented from there.

Cause I had to *grin* Basically learning as I go along, learned many useful things from fellow Team Suckers, and stumble across the odd tutorial that proves handy. I try to not overdo too many of the tricks, cause then it shows. Guess my greatest sin is a tendency to oversharpen.

What's "PhotoShop"?

I read Photoshop for dummies and worked my way up from there. :)

Tedious, but you learn a LOT that way hehe :)

Hack and Slash. Only way to learn anything. By doing.

Konador taught me almost everything I know since almost the day I joined; the rest I learned from replicating steps during validations.

Trial and Error with help from cablondeone and various tutorials, books, etc.

Self-taught, with some web tutorials and watching/reading about how other people do things. Sitting for hours upon hours messing with functions and settings and hitting "step backward".

I've been using a photo editing program since my film days though, after getting a scanner and a free copy of PaintShop Pro, so it's been years. Years and years.

And I'm nowhere near the level of MANY people just on this website alone.

WOW, I learned Photoshop? Here I was thinking I mastered nothing. :)
I have Photoshop CS3 but honestly I don't know a fraction of what I need to know. I have not taken any classes, ordered and media, or training courses. I mostly try to learn for others. Youtube has some good tips and tricks posted. And I read what I can that can be found free on the net.

I learned on my own by playing with it, however the learning curve wasn't nearly as steep in Version 1... ;-)

my school now offers multiple classes in photoshop. so i've learned there, and just playing around in it for hours.

I was born with the knowledge built-in. It bothered me that I had to wait several years for the first version to be released. :D

Actually, I learned by the trial-n-ERROR!!! method, and by reading lots of how-to tutorials from the web.

Even though I've been using it for several years (version 1 or 2, I can't remember), I still have a lot to learn. There are several features that I've never used. It's a very complex chunk of software.

I think they were already up to version 2.0 by the time I took a class on running a scanner for my job (pre-press work for a printing company) ... though things were "simpler" back then, everything took a lot longer too -- running the Unsharp Mask filter on an 8x10 image was an opportunity to go out for a cup of coffee.
