It might be fun to be inspired by major artistic movements for a challenge such as Impressionism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Romanticism, etc. I think many of us do this already, but perhaps don't even know that our photos could be classified in an artistic movement. It would be valuable to know this, I feel.

I think that would be fun... I have an impressionism idea rolling around at the moment that I have been wanting to try :)

Fun idea - though I would think it best if it were a basic editing challenge, to avoid a swill of those brush stroke filters over everything.

Sounds like a great idea to me

I agree this should be basic editing, I would like to see more creativity than photoshop in this.

LOL.

Now THIS I want to see. A site that can't stand grain, soft focus or sharpen mask do impressionism.

Add minimalism to the list too since it has actually been suggested here before...

Another challenge that would be cool related to this subject would be to photographicaly reproduct a famous classic painting. That would be also cool.

Plus it would be cool everybody to be asked to specify in the title what they are reproducing so we can search and compare.

That has been suggested before and shot down for a variety of reasons. The main reason I can see is that we doubted many people would actually go look up the painting to see how well/poorly the photo idea was executed.

Maybe your right I still would like to work on something like that. But who sais I need a challenge for it? :)

I'm all for it, I already submitted "Impressionistic and Abstract and they are on the "Bring a Challenge to DPC" list.

//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=73790

Abstract. Abstracts are about lines and shapes. If it is recognizable as an object - it is not an abstract.

Impressionistic. Learn about some of the techniques of impressionism, and generalize them to a photograph while staying within the DPC rules.

I'm sure others have suggested it before as well, yet we keep getting challenges that to me do not inspire creativity: "Wheels", "Vehicles", ...

Doesn't that require some kind of training / education, most of the folks here are not even familiar with those terms!(me somewhat)
That would be "doesn't meet the challenge" challenge.

I think anyone aproaching any sort of fine arts should atleast once look into an arts history book or enciclopedia or anything. Ofcourse me having a degree in painting I may be over reacting but in my country you can't even dare to go near a fine arts school (photography included) without atleast some basic knowledge of it. And I think that's verry good. History of arts and estetics are a must. I think if many people would have a feeling of it here we would see and apreciate more art photography than they do now here. Best way to learn about compositions colors and everything that concerns photographers too.

i don't know - i would love to have a go at this, but keep in mind this is a site where people can't even agree on what defines a freakin' wheel...
