I've gotten a grand total of two comments on my wheels entry. Right now it's sitting at a 4.8ish and I'm trying to figure out why people aren't liking it.

You've got 2 more than me! Give them time. Some go back & comment at a later time. Although I only got 1 comment on my Motion blur entry, so sometimes they don't come back....lol

I'm trying to make comments on everything:

You have rated 62 of 286 images (22%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 46 images (16%) in this challenge

it's slow going...but I'm trying!!!!!

and so far : 128 votes on my submission, and 6 comments. I don't expect to get too many more...

I'm also trying to comment on as may as possible. If everyone commented on only 15-20 photos, people would get a lot more comments.

I haven't even started voting yet cuz i've been so busy but my entry is sitting at 4.11 with 2 comments and its the most unique shot in the bunch in my opinion but as we all know unique isn't what wins.

A fun way to comment is for every comment you receive to give out 10.

The comments on "Chaos" seem low as well. After 127 votes I only have 2 comments. I don't think any comments have been added for two days running now.

Perhaps you and LtHousLady should give out a few more --- seems you like to get more than give!

Mine is slightly unbalanced because I was busy during the March study & recieved 23 comments on my entry, that I am thankful for. Sorry if I'm not totally up to speed, but work & family came first.

Sorry if I mis-interpreted your comment below as a complaint about not too many comments.

Sitting at 4.9xx. Rising slightly today, sure to fall tonite. Hoping to finish above 5 anyway.

116 votes, 5 comments (3 since noon today). Better voting ratio than Out of Place - 252 votes and 5 comments. Finished at 5.3 on that one.

I think mid-pack pics get less comments. The low ones i comment on because i think i know more, i mean, i think i can offer helpful comments Mid pack ones have not moved me one way or the other, and I may have no idea what would make them better other than they need to be better (better angle, subject, lighting, artsy eye?) Since i am a mid pack person lately i can say the comments i am getting are giving me know idea on what to do to make my pic better. One thought is overexposed a bit (i get that, i prefer pics that are brighter), a couple of 'nice crops' and a few i cannnot share as they might give away my entry. Not enough info there to help me get a 9 next time, but i still appreciate the efforts of those that commented.

BTW, i have cast more votes than received (2684 vs 2090) and given more comments than received (805 vs 117), 417 helpful ones. As i have become more active in the forums, my profile has been viewed more. Perhaps this is where i should have put that padded resume i have lying about (pun intended)LOL

In the wheels challenge:
Stats: You have rated 285 of 286 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 115 images (40%) in this challenge.

I have a full time job, wifge that works full time, 2 kids, dog, cats, fish, 2 acres of yard and an old house. And other hobbies. I am not asking anyone to do what I would not do (regarding commenting and voting)

It was just a light hearted reply to let them know that many come back later. I haven't even gotten to the 2 challenges currently in voting yet. I also try to make my comments on images I can offer constructive tips/opinions. I'd rather take my time & make fewer, more useful comments than 100's of "NICE!" comments. (not that I don't appreciate those comments. It is good to know if people like it too) Still getting a feel for it as I've only been active here for about a month.

I've just gotten my first entry in, and I can't stop reloading the page to see if there's another comment or vote. Truly addicting stuff. As a newcomer it's really hard to hand out comments though. You don't want to appear dumb and be the only one really killing an image that wind up a ribbon in the end (or the other way around for that matter).

Guess one has to take the risk and just jolt down what one feel. That's what this site is about right?

My first image is doing so-so, with 5.3 at the moment, but a couple of commenters have really made my day calling it brilliant. The critique from others I have to pretty much agree on. Guess it isn't that "hard" to make comments after all. Above 50% are friendly enough to call my comments helpful too. More than that would be surprising since not all comments really are about photo quality, but rather just small lines of jokes or good luck wishes.

It's a shame that people don't comment more on plain portfolio images. I have a couple of eggs that I feel pretty proud of being new at this kind of photography (got my D70 just a few days ago). Some 40-50 ppl have looked at them, but everyone's quiet. Next time I try hard with a photo, I guess I better fit it in a challenge :-)

Before I even put up a shot for the challenge, I jumped in and commented on every picture in the "Right Angle" challenge.

Maybe it's time for the another World Record attempt but with a challenge with a bit less entries.

I don't have the greatest camera but hopefully my comments can help someone.

In the Off Screen challenge i got back back comments of 'i hate the graininess' and 'i love the graininess'.

Same challenge, i voted 1/2 the top ten finishers at 4 or less.

So jump on in, you'll fit right in. And average score is a tad over 5, so your first attempt is averge. I watch that, of course, but the % finish is more 'rewarding'.

Then we're pretty much level pegging - I have 3 comments (one might as well not be there - see thread on Been Done) and a score hovering around 4.8.......

I can understand this. But comments are also about offering your opinion. You have a picture that you like - explain why you like it, the pictures you don't like, explain why you don't like them. This is just as helpful as a professional photographer giving you technical advice because you learn what the masses like.
