Hey guys!

It's been a while since I've been on here, but I'm jumping back in!

I've got a business idea and need a little help. I'm trying to create a website for which I can have users select the date from a calendar, view an image gallery (watermarked), then be able to order prints of various sizes, and checkout using PayPal. How easy is it to create a system like this? Are there templates available? What programs do I need? Dreamweaver? I took a web development class years ago but feel like I'm starting at ground zero. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris Anderson

Piece of cake.
I use instaproofs for my web proofing and before that used BreezeBrowser Pro (it allows paypal cart). You just need to upload the photos by 'category' - the category being the date. Instead of 'Jo and Don's Wedding' .
Not sure if a calendar would be an easy thing to have pop up, but in theory you could build that as a flash or even dumb HTML page where each date is a link to the instaproofs/breezebrowser category.

Youve got a lot of options. Have a look at smug mug. Thats is the easiest for creating, shopping cart and all that. Its 150.00 a year and can be nicely customized.

I on the other hand didnt go that way (glutten for punishment). Check out jalbum and some of the skins for it. photoviewer (a skin for jalbum) can is a one time fee of 70.00. It can offer menus, a calendar, printing, paypal and all that. You create the galleries and all from your computer and then upload them to your site.

I am in process of building my own site with html, flash, and a little php. hosted by godaddy which is 70.00 a year instead of smugmugs 150.00.

Templates can be found depending on what you want. flash templates from teplatemonster.com are nice, also smugmug has a nice bsic (editable) template, lastly bludomain has very nice templates that look pretty slick, but i guess their hosting sux.

There are many other options as well depending on what you would like to do.

Good luck and keep us posted on progress!

Wow, thanks for all the feedback! I decided to start off with Instaproofs. I can literally start shooting and uploading tomorrow with no cost to me until people buy. I will look into the other options that you suggested.

I'll keep you posted on the progress!
