I just bought a wifirouter and have connected my pc to it. However i cannot connect to the internet.
I go through my browser to my router and in the setup wan, i enter everything my isp gave me (PPoe, my login and password). but all i get is a message saying connecting...
my isp says they cant help me cause i didnt buy the router from them, and my router help desk is only in a language i cant speak.

if this is a common problem and anyone has the time, id be very greatful. i'll even comment on your photos, if you think im worthy :)

What I would do would be reset the router to the factory defaults.

Then just put in your login and password, I'm no expert but you shouldn't need to do anything with PPoe I don't think ... it should just pick it all up.

I mean in this in the nicest way possible, but is the router connected to the internet (DSL Modem) or just to your PC?

PPOE is point to point protocol over ethernet. It is basically a way of the DSL provider making you dial in and then doling out a pool of IP adresses the same way it used to be done with dialup modems. I have cable and don't have to do that on cable.

Can your computer reach the router? My question is, is the "not connecting" essage a failure ofyour computer to reach the router, or of the router to reach the internet?

Troubleshoot by first isolating the problem. Most wireless routers also have a few hardwired ethernet ports. Plug a hard wire into the router from the PC and if you can then get online, you will know the problem is related to your internal networks wireless connection.

I just re-read your post and it appears you are reaching the router. What did they give you for DNS settings? Does it eventually time out?

You can try connecting your computer directly to the DSL modem for troublshooting only. Warning: Make sure you have lots of precautions in place, such as a current antivirus and windows software firewall turned on, as this could open you up to a malware attack if you are not behind a router. Most likely, you will still be within your ISP's network when you do this, but it is still reducing the protection level.
