Ok..I just spent over 11 hours the last 2 days keywording and uploading 896 photos to Shutterstock. Is there a faster way to "batch" keyword in Lightroom 2, and choose catagories without doing it after the uploads, or will I have to choose the catagory afterwards anyway? I do not want to go through all that pain again!!!

there are keyword shortcuts ( sort of most recently used ), drag and drop ( from keyword dialog ), and you can always keyword a bunch at once upon import.

watch the library video from the 1st post...

I use keywords editor which is a photoshop plug in. It works great because it is simple and does exactly what i need it to do for stock. It deletes duplicate words, has a thesaurus and spell checker and it can copy keywords from any of the previous images you edited so if you are doing a series you can easily take the keywords from the last image.

As for categories on shutterstock... no you have to choose them when you upload.

you can keyword multiple images with the same keywords in Adobe Bridge (part of Creative Suite Premium)

I appreciate all the help...just trying to get at least 100 accepeted so I can make a "little" extra money. By the way LEAF you messed up a little in your shortcut information. I don't think my wife would appreciate me doing that in the living room where I use my laptop the most. Just read your directions and you will see what I'm talking about.

Are you a Windoze user and don't have Bridge or Lightroom 2?

Microsoft Photo Pro is Free, does batch tagging of Meta data and GPS stuff. Works well.

Expression Media 2 formerly iView by Phase One (not free) kicks Lightrooms cataloging a$$. Does all media, metadata and tagging. Fast and easy to use. Hiearchal keywording way easier than LR.

Note: I wasn't going to run 2 catalogs so in the end I ended up with LR2. I was tempted by Capture One + Expression Media 2 for < $200, but Capture One 4 (RAW conversion) just wasn't up to LR2s tweaks.

err - i was thinking about something else - wrong answer ;}

though i haven't messed with them much, what about the dynamic catalogs that lightroom2 offers ?

seems to assemble your images by metadata real time. so in theory if over 10 years i tagged 1000 photos with ' dog ' they should all show up in a dynamic catalog i created that looks for 'dog'. ( assuming i've got access to all the files - 10yrs is a long time ;)

so same would be true if i tagged all my stock photos as ' stock ' upon import, or individually as i looked through them.

i've never used expression media 2

well..fotolia has finally accepted 1 image...and shutterstock has accepted 48 of the same ones I submitted to the other site. Guess it just depends on what is needed or wanted on the site on which photos get selected.
