There have been several times when I have received a comment which I do not understand and would like to ask for clarification or to reply to a question someone has posed, however I do not wish to reveal who I am nor which entry is mine during voting. I have to imagine others might feel the same way.

So I ask if there is any way to do it, please allow us to reply to our comments in an anonymous manner during voting.

Thank you!

Replying to a a specific comment will often in itself reveal who you are. Duh. I had a brain fart. Nevermind. It would not reveal who you are.

I like the idea and often thought about it but I think yospiff is right.

How about being able to respond right away but only being able to read the reply after voting. So you could send a reply to a comment and that person would only see it after the tallies are added up.

eta;

yospiff, replying to a comment is like sending a pm, no? I guess i'm still farting...

That's the only way of doing it right now. I'll sometimes respond to a comment. sometimes to answer a question, sometimes to thank someone for leaving a comment. I try to be very careful to phrase it appropriately because even if they are criticizing, they are taking the time to let me know why, when everyone else has just hit the 4 or 5 and then pressed on.

I wouldn't mind this too. Lots of time people ask questions and then after the challenge I forget to go back and answer them. This would help

Hehe, I can see the merit in this idea, and I'm sure there are folks like yourself that would make good use of it, for clarification, answering questions etc. However, I can only imagine the people that would use the power of anonymity to go on a total flame fest against anyone leaving comments not giving glowing praise to their crappy entries. :-)

Or perhaps instead of waiting until voting is done, the reply can be made right away, but all that is displayed is the thumbnail and the comment. That way you know what photo it goes with, but no identity is revealed.

I think this has merit and, since the vote is cast I'd suggest the voter would not be allowed to bump up/down after a reply is sent. The drawback I see is that I often return to images to bump up/down after I voted on all images.

For example, if somebody commented on one of my shots about (say) the softness of the image I might reply with a valid reason for the softness - however the vote was cast without the reason being known so should mean it can't be bumped - as none of the other images in the comp had been allowed to varify reason (I think that makes sense).

It would be sufficient to have a holding place for these immediate and probably genius replies to comments until after the voting is over at which time they could be delivered and no genius lost nor influence peddled.

Not reveling which entry is yours????? I'm lost... Why would you ask a question of a comment that was not on your image????
08/02/2008 05:04:17 PM · #14
I like the idea. There has been time, although not many, that a voter has posted a comment in the form of a question. A real question, not sarcasm. I wanted to answer the commenter question but didn't because it would of let the commenter know who's photograph it was.

The idea is to reply without the recipient knowing who you are. That way you could respond to questions without biasing the voter.

I like the idea, BTW...

Anon.

I think we all need to take a break and read this thread and have a little laugh. It will make us all feel better about the drop kicks out there who think they know everything and like to comment and vote accordingly. We have all experienced them!!!

Ok...

...I make a comment like..."Your picture does not meet the challenge because it is a picture of a GOAT".

The photographer then is able to send me a message asking about the GOAT comment. The photographer says...'hey...the challenge title is "Sheep" and I grew up to know Goat and SHEEP as the same thing'.

The commenter has a change of heart and changes his vote from a 1 to a 5.

It doesn't matter if they know who you are...they are able to influence the vote !
