So what does that mean to you? If you were asked to show a portfolio of photos with ambient light, what would you show?

I know what ambient light means, (using the light available) but does that mean no on or off camera strobe involved?

for example, if I were shooting an indoor real estate shot, wouldnt I want to use my sb-600 plus all the lights in the house?? Does that make sense?

Because for real estate photos, they look much better taken with the sb-600 combined with turning on all the lights, then using only the available light and longer shutter speeds.

It would seem to me to mean that there should be no auxiliary lighting such as a flash of any kind. In your realestate question that would seem to indicate use of existing light fixtures is ok but not extras.

The other possible interpretation is that this would imply no artificial lighting of any type, only natural light from the sun or stars and that available from reflections of said same light sources. I would expand this to mean also light sources that are set at their "natural" or Normal" setting of level such as a table lamp in a living room which would be the "normal" setting compared to say all the lamps on and the overhead lamp and the curtains opened and the lights in the room next door on full etc.

Doesn't matter - client makes the call. You have to show them what they want to see if you want the job.

I have a suspicion the question relates to laws limiting alterations to photos when commercially shooting for real estate advertising. For example, in the UK recolouring real estate photos is a no-no, so you can't take an external shot of a house and 'shop a grey sky to make it a nice pleasing blue colour.
