I am contemplating spending the night in Chattanooga tomorrow night, arriving around 8 PM and leaving by noon on Thursday. Any good places to sight see and do a little shooting? I have never been there before...are there any places I should avoid (sorry, I'm originally from Houston and I worry about safety) or definitely not miss?

Lookout Mountain! See Rock City! Seriously. Great place to shoot. The aquarium is nice too, but you don't have that kind of time. Enjoy.

Even if you don't have the time to go around the aquarium, the riverfront by the aquarium is a great place for photography. From the aquarium, walk up 2nd or 3rd street to the Hunter Museum and the Bluff Arts district (just a few blocks), and the lighted clear bridge from the museum to the pedestrian bridge across the river (great at night). You can also cross the pedestrian bridge to get to Coolidge Park on the other side of the river, where there are fountains and a beautiful covered carousel.

where are you staying?

I'd recommend staying downtown, and enjoying the riverwalk area, the Hunter Museum, the Bluff View Arts District, the Carousel, and and and

...and now I feel silly cuz Bebe said it all first

still - it really is a friendly & fun area. Enjoy!

Actually, I think I will have to leave by 10 AM instead of noon. I will stay at the Motel 6 downtown and explore the areas you suggested. I'm not sure the finances would stretch to Lookout Mountain, although it does seem like a very scenic area.
