Ok so here's my dilemma....

I'm going on vacation in a few weeks (Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Jackson, WY) and I'll be on foot a lot as well as in a car. I currently own a nice LowePro shoulder bag that holds all my stuff. However, since I'll be on vacation and on foot, I'd like a camera bag that can hold my equipment as well as personal items. I'm a female and I normally carry a purse so I'll be putting all my girl-friendly items in the bag as well. I want a sling-style bag so that I can easily turn it around and get out what I need when I need it. Here's the bag I like ....

My question is, does anyone know of a different bag that suits my needs? I also love the look/style of Crumpler bags but I don't particularly want to spend $200.

My Crumpler is the best camera bag I own and I have a way too many(as per my wife). IMO Crumpler bags are worth every penny.
Here is a good link for camera bags.

I tried to put all my stuff in a post and I lost it twice. (the post not the equipment.)

I've had mine for over 3 years and it has been great, but is starting to show it's age.

I carry the 40D and all my lenses, flash, batteries, and other necessary stuff. The bag weighs about 30-35 pounds when I carry it.

It has started to rip from the top strap opposite the upper zipper, but again I have been carrying alot of stuff in it and it's even gone on a horseback ride in Costa Rica.

I just got the Lowepro SlingShot 300 AW

it's a hefty bag and holds a lot of stuff. It's nice and padded and has a waist strap to take most of the weight off of your back on long walks....simple to "sling" around grab your camera out.

The waist strap is one thing that I wish it had due to the weight I put in it. So I will keep the Lowepro in mind for my replacement. The Naneu refers to a pretty good warranty so I may approach them and see if the ripping is covered.

I was out getting a shot for the "Lawn" challenge and had to walk quite a ways to get the shot I wanted. I had never previously used the waist strap but my back started killing me and I was cursing the bag b/c it allowed me to put all my gear in it. I said "what the heck" threw on the waist strap, tightened it up and the bag became light as a feather.

I have a Lowepro Slingshot 200 for sale.

It is sitting around collecting dust. I can't use it because I have back issues and it really bothers my back.

I own 2 vrumplers, one my camera bag with Nikon gear (D300, 80-200 large lens, 60mm, 24-120, and usually a 35-80 on the camera), the other is my work bag for over 3 years. I love them. Ok the inside color is a bit funky, but they last and have all the right hanfles, removable sections, and storage i can get my grubby little hands on.

Check out Ebay for some better deals. The crumple sinking barge fits your ideal bag well i think. but then again it is 2X the price. good luck with the purchase! oh and have a great trip!

I have the slingshot 100 and love it. The larger version would probably suit your purpose well. That one you were originally looking at has a shape that looks like it could be very convenient to use.

Crumpler is far less then $200.... I have the 7MillionDollarHome and from memory it was @120-ish. Nice bags....

I am actually looking to move away from Lowepro 100, since it puts all the weight on one shoulder. I don't think the 200 and 300 would do much better.
I am considering the Fastpack by Lowepro, since you can still sling it around your shoulder, but it's also a normal backpack.

Gee thanks, now I'm going to have to go look at that one. I'm acquiring a collection of camera bags.

I have this bag as well and love it. I bought it when I bought my Canon 70-200. It fits perfectly.

I have the LP Slingshot 200. I just upgraded to a LP Mini Trekker AW since all of my gear wouldn't fit in the SS-200.

With a D70s, 18-200, 12-24, SB600, a large cleaning cloth, a couple of lens hoods, and extra battery and charger, the main area of my SS-200 was full leaving only the small upper compartment free for cables and lunch. This also put quite a strain on my right shoulder; I'm a 170 lb guy and this was enough weight for me, too much for extended periods.

Maybe the SS-300 would have faired better with a bit more room and it's waist strap.

Now I've got the Mini Trekker AW and it has far more room than probably even the SS-300. It has two wide shoulder straps and makes carrying this weight MUCH more comfortable. I've now added four primes to my collection (10.5mm F2.8 fisheye, 28mm F2.8D, 50mm F1.4D and 85mm F1.8D), and the Mini Tekker makes hauling all of my gear at once very easy. True, you lose the "sligshot" ability to pull the camera out of the bag without taking the bag off, but the extra room and carying comfort more than make up for this in my opinion.

Oh, the Mini Trekker also has a waist strap to help relieve shoulder stress on longer walks, but I have yet to use it or feel the need for it. If I was planning a hike for several hours I'd probably use it, but I haven't yet done so with this bag. I've used it for about six months, prior to which I spent two years using the SS-200. I think there's a large ergonomic benefit to balancing the weight of a backpack on both shoulders. Hope this helps.

I use a LowePro shoulder bag. When I want to go hiking, I add the Deluxe Waist Belt, which holds the bag right on my waist. When I want to shoot, I simply unclip the belt and carry the bag with its shoulder strap alone.

This is the one I just got and it has tons of space. Comfortable to swing around on your back when shooting yet swing back to front to get to your stuff is a breeze.

!!!

CAUTION - Lowepro Slingshot owners !

I also have the Slingshot 300, BUT BEWARE! See the thread I linked to above!

That being said... I have fastened the clip with two black zip-ties, and now use the bag with confidence. It is the most-used of my four differently-sized bags.
