It´s hard to say this, but I think someone has to say it. Out of place challenge is one of the worst challenges that I saw here. There are a lot pictures with no quality and no interest.
I´m very depressive with this challenge, but I suppose sometimes it would have to happen.

ummm... i guess i'll wait to see you put that rebel to the test before i really take your comments to heart.

i've not even looked at the challenge, but i have a difficult time with all of these relatively new and untested people whining about the challenge quality lately.

You profile shows 111 votes cast with an avg of 10??????????

I suppose that's better than scoring them all 1's...

yeah, that's wierd. If they were disappointing how come you voted 111 10's?

I think we need to give everyone a chance. Here, folks are at different levels. You can;t just sum up creativity. It has to come to you.

Let's be kind, especially since the challeng ejust started & we wouldnt want o give undue influence to the voters.

Not exactly on topic but...

I just got my first proof of submission since I've been a member.. and I'm kind of excited actually. I had no problem submitting proof or remembering my post editing, but it actually made me feel a little bit more like a real edgy photographer. Like I finally found a suject that people are like "Wow! Ok, there's no way he could have done that without breaking the rules." With all this ranting, I hope I'm not jinxing myself.

(I only wish I could convince the admin to let me re-submit a better post processing version of my pic, now that I realize I forgot to do something)

I believe those stats are from previous challenges not the current voting.

It's always a good sign when someone's first post is "all y'all suck."

Yes they are, but it's impossible to have a perfect 10 avg if you are voting right.

Question for RedBlue. How is it you have made 111 votes and your average vote made is 10.0000?
03/31/2004 09:34:28 AM · #10
My assumption was that odd voting patterns got discarded. Not true ?
03/31/2004 09:42:03 AM · #11
oops. guess I chimed in on that a little late. but it still seems weird...

Yes, those votes probably didn't count at all (and certainly shouldn't have). Getting back to his point, though, I'd agree that this is not one of the better Challenge results I've seen. Quite a few contrived or low quality shots (there are some gems, to be fair). Then again, my entry is getting clobbered after scoring 5.9 or better in seven consecutive challenges (counting Motion Blur), so maybe I just didn't get it. ;-)

I know I certainly don't get it yet. I was holding a solid 6 last night & was below 5 this morning & now it's trying to climb back. Do the vampires come out at night & suck the life out of your score?

They sure did mine I was at 6.3 before going to bed now at 5.4... lots of sleep deprived people I guess.

I've entered 2 challenges so far and got 64% and 70% so overall so far I am heppy. I think I am going to get clobbered on the March Free Study though. I initially was making the shot for the "out of place" challenge but didn't think it was weird enough so I didn't do it and now after seeing the current shots I think it would have been fine. And I'm guessing the competition on the Free Study is going to be pretty good. Oh well. Its all fun...

You'll get no sympathy from me for your falling scores. I went to bed with an abysmal 3, and my entry has only clawed its way up to a still-my-worst-ever 4.6. The shot is technically fine, composition and appeal are OK, and the out of place element should be obvious to anyone without a white cane and dark glasses, so I'm at a loss.

I feel your frustration. Just watch your language. There are kids present... ;)

I guess there are several people who are dissatisfied with the submissions this week. The only comment I have received so far was “o great another flower picture.”

Sounds like we all drpped about the same. I went from a 6.2 to a 4.9. Back around 5.2 now after only 14 more votes, so I know there are people out there voting on it's merit. Starting to think I like the idea meantioned ina nother thread of sticking to member challenges & skip this open stuff...

Thanks, Eric, but how did you know which one is mine? I hear some people just give everything a 10. ;-)
