I've joined the 21st century, I have just bought my first iPod - a cute little blue Nano. So does anyone have any suggestions for music to load on it?

So far I have (actually, my daughter has) uploaded Coldplay, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Rilo Kiley, Ockerville River, Patrick Wolfe and The Shins. If anyone has any suggestions of stuff I might like, I'll give it a try.

Congrats!!!!
Google a free software to have on hand...iDump...should you ever need to reload your iPod...you don't have to go find all of the CDs again...works brilliantly I'm told. Better than the iPod way...(I'm still back in the 20th century...I don't have one yet!)

Well, if you like Pink Floyd, then I would say Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and other older bands like that. Some of them sound a lot alike. Personally, that's what I like. But I also like some jazz stuff too.

I'm partial to non-Ipod MP3 players, myself. I have modest collection of them at this point.

Now that you are musically enabled, Check out some podcasts. They are free and most of the good ones can be found via Itunes. Lots of good photography podcasts and any other subject that you may be interested in.

Great podcast out there call This Week in Photography. Apparently there are DP Challenge podcasts however I haven't found them. (It would probably help if I actually looked though).

Ditto. I have a Sandisk Sansa. It's the size of lipstick and I can plug it into any computer (USB) to upload/unload music and charge the battery, plus it has a micro SD slot for expandable memory :)

As far as suggesting music, I doubt you'll dig my playlist but I've always got to have some Queens of The Stone Age on there. Trail of Dead, Celebration, Tom Waits, Modest Mouse, Ween, Beck, Tom Petty & Soul Coughing are a few others that are on my current playlist.

it seems like you daughter might be a stoner.. jk jk

but try pandora.com is like an online radio station, you type in what band or song you like, and they'll play a bunch of stuff like it. Then you can buy it through iTunes, or join the 21st century and get the music elsewhere (can't tell you how).

I have a Sansa View, got rid of the iPod! Now I just drag and drop what I want.

Try The Stone Roses, The Cult and of course, Floyd!! The Levellers are great if you want a bit of folky music mixed with rock. The Stranglers are the best.

Hope you enjoy you iPod, and have a lot of music on it!

Yayyy iPods! I have an older one, it's great, served me well for 2 years now.

My playlist is mostly Christian music (Fee, Jon Foreman's EPs, Rush of Fools) with a few random things (Goldfinger, Basshunter, They Might Be Giants) mixed in...probably not your style.

Also a proud owner of a Sansa View, its amazing, and i love the drag and drop feature, works like a charm.
congrats on a music device though, it changed my life.

As for music, if your into more rockish sorts try The Smashing pumpkins, Incubus, Bob Dylan, The White Stripes, 311, Soundgarden, Adioslave, just listen to the radio more, and be sure to listen to the song and artist.

Something else, if you cant remember the name of a song, but parts of the lyrics, try googling them; it works wonders and you find long lost songs that you love.

I use my iPod all the time, especially when I'm riding my bike (which my son tells me is illegal) and it's hard to say what one person would like and another won't but for artists/groups I'd choose: Aerosmith, Boston, Colin Hay, CCR, David Gray, Fleetwood Mac, Howie Day, Neil Young, Ray Charles, Rolling Stones, and The Temptations.

and if you're looking for singles... I'd add Cannonball by Damien Rice, Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch, Colors by Amos Less, I Didn't Want to Say Goodbye by Ari Hest, Save Us by Cartel, Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk, I Have and Always Will by Dave Barnes, Collide by Howie Day, Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, Maybe I'm Amazed (cover) by Jem, Riverside by John Gorka, Won't Back Down by Mat Kearney, Ohh Child by Nina Simone, Can I Stay by Ray LaMontagne, Question by Rhett Miller.

But, I warn you, my tastes tend to run towards more acoustic, more melancholy, and it's probably true, so be warned. Have fun.

Only if you live in the US. If you live in Canada, it's outlawed! ;|

Um... what? I don't get it. Is it funny because I like 60's bands or what?

I'm not big on mp3 players, but I just inherited my fiance's old 4gb mini...

I want to get a Touch though, mainly so I can use the awesome screen as a portable portfolio. A few photog friends of mine do this, its super convenient and looks extremely good. I'm impressed with how good the screen looks everytime they bust it out.

I LOVE MY iPOD(s) Have an 80 gig that usually resides in my car and is almost full, and a 20 gig that comes with me when I go running, to the beach, etc.

So to the OP, you mentioned what music your DAUGHTER put on it, but what music do YOU like?? I'm assuming you know all about some of these legendary bands that are being posted and are looking for something new or different?

It's OK. Sometimes people get a little forgetful with old age. Happy birthday, by the way! ;-)

So i see on your profile that you play guitar and bass, do you play drums as well?

Oh...sorry to have an opinion about non-relevant, totally insignificant topics.
