I can't get any lense I own to auto-focus in any mode other than auto. In all manual modes I have to manually focus. Another thing is, my 70-300mm won't auto-focus in any mode at all. Anyone else ever run into this? Not sure if I have a setting off someplace or not. Everything works with the 30D, but not the XTI.

I don't own a 400Xti so I don't know the specs on tat camera. Does that camera have a function were you can change the focus button from the shutter button to a different button? I would read your Manuel and see if you accidentally switched which button controls focus. I would also check you connections on that camera and make sure they are clean, though that doesn't seem like it would be the problem. Good luck.

ETA: Custom Function 4 controls different things for Auto Focus, look into that.

I'm assuming it is not the AF/MF switch on the lens as it works on your 30D. Maybe you could clear the custom settings on the XTi and restore the defaults, in case you did advertently press something that caused it. Good luck!

Check your autofocus points (button on top right of the cameras back). U might have chose single point autofocus by mistake and aren't putting that single point on ur subject. I don't think you can switch to manual focus in camera.

Nope..fixing to get offline for a few and check into it better. But, when I try to get something in focus, nothing moves at all...no focus points light up or anything.

Try taking some Q-Tips and a bottle of alcohol and cleaning the connection points on the XTi. Then try them again. If this doesn't work, reset your camera's default settings via the menu and try that.

Good luck :)

Ok..got it fixed.. the focus point was not set on the screen. Got a PM from Brad, (THANKS), on what to check...works perfect now. Too bad I had to shoot my submission for tonight using manual focus..but it still came out ok.
