Hey guys, I am buying the following:
Nikon D40 body
Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED Lens
Lens Hood
UV Filter
4GB SD Card
Camera Bag

The guy wanted $700 for it,
I bargained down to $550 CAD

Please tell me if you think this is worth it?
Keep in mind I'm an amateur and this is my first SLR
THANKS!

I forgot to mention that it was purchased new in January and only 850 photos were taken with it.

I just did a quick google search and you can get the D40 two lens kit for about the same price new with a 1GB card.
How "used" is the camera?

My advice would be to do a little looking around on the net and see what you can come up with before you buy.

So what do you think based on the date of the camera?

Thanks

My opinion $550 is too much. $700 was nuts to ask for it, based on current pricing.

A 4GB SD card is around $30.

That 18-70mm lens is $360 new though.
Its not the 18-55mm lens that comes with the other cameras.

I thought it was a good deal. Also remember that I dont have to pay tax this way.

And I figured all the little perks that come with it would make up the price as well.

The 18-70 although inexpensively built, is a great lens for general shooting and walkabout use. If you buy the one you mentioned, you will soon be wanting more lenses.

Take the B&H two lens kit. You will have a new camera, two lenses, and new warranty for the same price plus shipping.
Good luck either way.

You might not have to pay tax - but what warranty do you have. Nothing. Sleep easy and buy from a reputable source.

The camera is 6 months old, so I do get the warranty, both the lens and the camera.

Plus if I buy from B&H, I would have to pay customs to bring it into Canada, which is another $90...

You guys are making me feel like I made the wrong choice.
I could always show up with 500 and tell him take it or leave it hahahha

You seem to have already decided on this camera and are just looking here to feel good about this decision. You ask for opinions and are getting them. I feel a little resentment maybe, just not sure why.

Haha, yeah.

I have pretty much decided.
Thanks for the replies.

Remember, the 550 is in Canadian dollars. All other amounts are in US dollars.

What exchange rate does B & H charge?
What does Henry's, The Camera Store, Vistek or Camera Canada list these items for?
