Justice Suzanne Tessier should be removed from the bench...

Disgusting!

This only goes to amplify a comment my father used to make:

"The sad thing about common sense is that it really isn't all that common!"

Rather sad that this judge has effectively handcuffed every single parent in Canada with this ludicrous decision.

Hopefully this will be reversed on appeal.

This makes me sick. First they tell you your not allowed to spank your child (US) and now courts are sending the message that we [parents] can't even discipline our children. No wonder some children in this world is out of control - No Parental Guidance.

If you read the whole story, it says that the girl used her court-appointed attorney, who is assigned to her for a custody dispute, to sue her dad.

So, now she's not only playing Mom and Dad against each other, she's playing the judge too.

I know this is of no comfort to you, but that "No Spanking" rule is soon to become the law of the land in Canada also.

Good thing it didn't exist at the time I was a kid... I do believe my dad would still be in prison... and yes I earnestly believe that I deserved every single one of those spankings.

Considering the age of this young lady I seriously doubt that is an option.

In this country parents have a legal obligation to provide for their children till they are at least 18, and even longer if they are still attending school.

So... if little Johnny is tired of you hassling him and getting him to clean his room and the like, he can approach the good folks at the welfare office and get all kinds of wonderful things... all of which you are responsible to pay for.

How's that for a complete loss of control.

She's moved back with her mother. So... another couple years and he finds his support payments increased to pay for his 14 year old daughter's pregnancy and baby?

And another 20 years before the daughter realises what she's lost when she chose a couple days in Ottawa over a relationship with her father?

(I was going to post this story after seeing it on the news last night but I got busy with packing...)

This is my beef with goobermint interference.

If this kid's capable of conducting her own lawsuit, and wins, then fine, she's capable of providing for herself instead of biting the hand that feeds her, clothes her, houses her, and incurs all the other expenses and aggravation that go along with being a parent.

I don't believe in pick and choose in this kind of situation.......you live in the house and are provided for.....you abide by the rules.

Don't like it?

Fine.....move out, get a job and a place to live and make your own house rules.

There is no free lunch in life.

Did you get so disgusted that you've decided to leave Canada? J/K...I'm thankful I have no kids!!!

Kids do have their own rewards... and my inckling is that her has to be more to the story than just "he grounded me and now I'm sueing... I wonder what the relationship was like before... and what role the mom played in all this... most well adjusted kids don't go straight to "I'm going to sue dad" after being grounded... in fact even though they constantly push the boundaries Kids really do need to know that those boundaries are there.

Here in the US there are a few other options, and no they are not pleasant. My wife worked there for a couple of years as a cook. It’s somewhat like boot camp, but with more rules ; p .Cross creek

on the bright side...they have free health care...lol sorry couldn't resist.

If she was mine, she'd be finding her crap on the door step with a Yard Sale sign posted near by.

If the parent is responsible for the child till the age of 18 then the judge should not have even entertained the "child's" case. I'd like to see this kid go in front of Judge Judy, she'd leave the court room crying lol.

heh, my six year old daughter told me last night that it's against the law to spank her. That's OK though, she's never been spanked and I had to explain to her what spanking is. She was a bit shocked. She always thought spanking was when I pat her (gently) on her cute little bum and say the word spank-spank-spank.
