so ive got a 20d, ive got a couple slow ass ultra II's, well there not half bad, but if i were to get raw specialized cf's, would my buffer increase due to the faster 300x's writing speeds? cause on raw i get about 6 frame bursts before it overloads wich is a total bust. second option would just be to get a 40d/ used mkII and be over with it. probly not going to happen though. thanxs

If you buy your 300x card from a half decent camera hop instead of a cut price internet dealer, they should let you try it out. If it works then go for it, otherwise it's a 40D for you ;)

Just so everyone here is aware the "New" CF cards from Hoodman the UDMA cards WILL NOT work any faster than your average cards. You can only benefit from the UDMA speeds with the Newer Ds Mark III and the Nikon D3 I almost dropped a few hundred bucks to by a few of the cards before someone in line asked about the speed on a 5D and a 40D. I' glad I stuck around for that lecture...
The speed of the card does help a small amount on your average cards just remember your buffer speed is what it is and it will only clear a card so fast.
On a 20D I really doubt you'll gain much more speed by going to a faster card.

Yeah what jtf6agent said. Don't go above Ultra III, which may or may not work at full speed. Ultra IVs will cost you as much as a new lens and might not be any faster. :)

Keep in mind, there are 2 limits to the speed when writing to the CF, one is the card itself and the other is the camera. If your current cards are already fast enough to keep up with the camera, faster cards will not change a thing. For detailed card tests on the 20D, check out //www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-7303 . The upshot of this is that the 20D maxes out on the Ultra II class cards. The fastest Extreme IV is only 5% faster than the fastest Ultra II. (Multiple sizes of each card were tested with some being faster or slower than others.)
