.....sort of. My "Orange" entry had to be disqualified because I confused the editing rules. I originally used Advanced Editing thinking it was allowed for this challenge but then realized I was wrong. I re-edited the picture in a rush (10min before the deadline) but somehow STILL forgot about the rules and used the selection tool to edit the colors. Oh well. It was scoring pretty well too.

Daisy - just to maybe clear things up - certain ways of doing selective desaturation are legal under the basic editing, and others are not legal.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's the way it is.

My dog (9yr old Maltese) LOVES baby carrots, if there was a piece of chocolate and a baby carrots on the floor he would go for the carrot first...

It's funny as heck!

Ok, then I'm confused... what are the legal ways of doing selective desat?

Thanks jmsetzler! Very much appreciated!

Justine, my dog is a dachshund. You can see another picture of her in my portfolio. Her name is Chiquita.

And...YES...she really, really does like carrots. As crazy as that might seem she loves them.

Oh, duh! I was way out in left field. lol
I did see the little Dachshund but didn't think they were the same dog. How cute.
I may have Greyhound on the brain. I met a lady this weekend that had a Greyhound she had rescued.

I had a similar problem in the "silence" challenge.
it got to the stage that I began to think I had misread the rules and agreed it should be DQ`d.(It wasn`t DQ`d as it was done in the following manner)
If you select the full image and desaturate certain colours that`s ok, because the desat is applied to the full image.

Your image would have been fine done that way as long as there was no red or yellow in other parts of the image...otherwise you have to select the item you want to keep the colour in and desat the rest..which is a definite no no for basic editing.
Hope that kinda makes sense :)

I agree. An that's how I normally do that but with my hand there and with the dog being a red-haired dachshund, the red desaturation would desaturate pretty much everything. I tried this after I realized that it was going to be disqualified.

Literal photographic representations of existing works of art (including your own) are not considered acceptable submissions. Please review the rules...how did that apply to my pic?

That's a good thing since chocolate is toxic to dogs :(

I had a dog which ate avocado.

My friend Tom had a dog you could give a huge dish of food and scraps; when you came back the bowl would be licked clean with three peas in the bottom ...
