Let's hear your tips and tricks, see some of your in-studio works. I would like to hear stories about how you started, how it is going and what your goals are. I also would like to see your awards if any :)

Only rule for this thread is that you have to be the owner or part owner of a photography studio.

My studio called "studio Focus Point" by Studio Focus Point LLC. I started with a business partner ( mangojuice). Our goal here is to become one of the best modeling studios. Right now we take family portraits, weddings, sporting events and going for house calls :)

I know there are some of you out there owns studio large as airplane hangar. I really would like to see what you guys have, lights, props etc...

A little story about our current studio.
We are located in a frame store in Raritan NJ. The studio was owned by a beautiful woman, an actress and a model Kimberly Ross for 5 years. She lost her battle to breast cancer in 2006. She seems like ran a very successful business from here. It's just a coincidence that we also renting the place as photography studio. I have never met this lady, but she is probably watching her place right now and wishing us well. We will try to follow her footsteps from here.

I have a studio! Not the size of an airplane hanger, but its working for me. I went full-time this year, most of you know that, after about 5 years of part-time. My latest cool prop is a wagon-wheel themed set of outdoor garden furniture (for use in the studio of course). I am a sole owner, cleaner of toilets, mower of lawns, caller of strangers, keeper of books, shooter of images and mopper of baby pee; among my other titles.

I try to keep my studio fun and constantly changing.

I've found the most help from the community at OurPPA.com (you need to be a PPA memeber to access much of it). Truly helpful group who don't mind sharing important trade info.

My buddy and I started up our studio at the end of last year. It gets the job done - 1700 sq ft w/ 16' cyc, separate area for 9' seamless, rollup door, makeup counters, plenty of lighting equipment and mobile storage space. We're aiming for commercial clients so the studio's set up for us to get our work done, but it's also done portraits and rentals.

Unfortunately no awards other than making progress ;)

Some shots -

When I see these kind of things I get anguish. why? Because it's not possible to me having these kind of things, which means I will not succes as a photographer. For you, first world people is easy to get this things, even if they're expensive, you can do an effort and have it but doesn't matter how much effort I could do, I will not get this things because this stuff is not available in my bloody country... I don't have who can teach me as well, so I'm self thaught, and I'm not able to have a damn bloody account here because in my bloody country PayPal Doesn't bloody exist... You see... 5 bloody usd... Damn... How much lenses do you own? They're L Series, right? Ah yeah... They're super mega sharp, with the best F Numbers you can imagine... Yeah... I know... Damn... I'm not feeling well

Martín - I feel for ya and wish people here (U.S., but not necessarily DPC) had more appreciation for what they have. You are welcome to move here! Make sure you apply legally (but pssssst, if that doesn't work out I heard they don't even lock the gates at night).

virtuamike - thanks for posting the shots of the studio!

In a couple of weeks my new studio (at home) is finished, we're gonna start next week with painting etc.

I'm planning on taking some photos of the process and the final result ofcourse, if you guys are interested I can post them here :)

Cool! Although I meant to add that I don't go so far as to sound like I'm clearing my throat when I say it. ...in my head I mean.

Yeah, I know you appreciate your stuff, and most people does it. Beucase it corst effort to get these things. They didn't come from the air, you know...
I'm actually working for many people from the first world, and I appreciate what I'm earning, thanks to GØD, and thanks to them. Well, I have the money to buy the flashes, for example, but they're not available here, plus, renting a place like the one in this pic is expensive for me, and I don't own credit cards, even if I have asked to the banks from Argentina some International Credit Card Solution, cheaper than the common one (mastercard, visa, etc) but they don't have any kind of idea about PayPal or any other system like that... I cry when I see these things, but anyway, I'm doing my effort and I will have what I want... But it put me sad the fact that you have 29 years old and you already know how to handle these lights and studio things, I'm 28 years old and I even don't know how to handle a pair of 500 watts tungsten lamps, just by instinct... Nobody here (in my country) knows how to handle the lights, education is obsolete here... I'm sad because I want to learn, but I need the tools, don't know if I need a teacher, but the tools... I'm a photography teacher. I teach what I've learnt by myself. I must apply for success in order to relax my self.
I will look in google how can I be legal in first world countries. Thanks for the tip, bro :)
